INDIANAPOLIS – The Butler women's soccer team improved to 2-1-1 on the year with a 2-0 shutout victory over Bowling Green on Sunday afternoon. A pair of freshmen found the back of the net against the Falcons in the second half to secure the victory.
The first goal of the game came from
Caitlyn DiSarcina off a beautiful pass from
Breann Pempek. The feed sent DiSarcina up the middle of the field for a breakaway opportunity. She shot from 15 yards out, beating the BGSU keeper to the left side.
Just three minutes later the Bulldogs would add an insurance goal to the scoreboard with
Elena Gutlove recording her first collegiate goal. A double assist featured
Julia Leonard pushing the ball to
Gabrielle Lemkuil who then found Gutlove in space. The true freshman scored in the 76th minute to make the game 2-0.
Defensively, the Bulldogs used two goalkeepers in
Hannah Luedtke and
Leonie Doege. Luedtke got the start, but each keeper would log 45 minutes of action and end the contest with one save.
BU kept pressure on BGSU throughout the match, winning the shot total 18-9.
Paige Monaghan led all players with six shots. The Falcon keeper came up with four saves and there was one team save to their credit.
Butler will now shift their focus to the Eastern Michigan Eagles who visit the Sellick Bowl on Friday, Sept. 1. Kick-off is slated for 7 PM.
