Tour Stop 11: Fieldhouse Renaming

After 514 wins, a National Championship, 10 conference titles, and 37 years of service, Butler University honored legendary coach Paul D. "Tony" Hinkle by renaming Butler Fieldhouse as Hinkle Fieldhouse. Hinkle joined the Butler University Athletics Staff as an assistant coach with  no fanfare in 1921, and his appointment as Athletic Director merited a one-paragraph mention in the March 20, 1926, New York Times. But by the time he retired at the end of the 1969-1970 school year – as athletic director, football, baseball, and basketball coach, director of physical health, and full professor – he had created Butler's athletic reputation.

Click the video above with hear Associate AD for Development, former coach and Bulldog student-athlete Ken Larose talk about how Coach Hinkle learned the news of the building's re-naming.
