Butler posted an 11
th-place finish against a quality field at the Badger Invitational in the team's first competition of the season. Newcomer
Logan Sabins paced the team with an even-par total of 216 over the three rounds, including a three-under 69 on Tuesday.
Sabins' score was good for a T25 finish in the event hosted by the University of Wisconsin. His Tuesday round included five birdies and a double bogey.
Sophomore
Patrick Allgeier and junior
Ricky Kuiper finished the 54 holes at 222 (+6). Kuiper shot a two-over 74 Tuesday, one shot better than Allgeier. In Monday's second round, Allgeier shot a four-under 68. They tied for 38
th place.
Michael Cascino shot a 72 Tuesday, featuring five birdies, and finished at 223 (+7) for the tournament;
Michael Denner shot 240 (+24).
The Bulldogs shot a team score of 290 (+2) Tuesday, their best performance of the three days after opening with 293 (+5) Sunday and following that with a 297 (+9) Monday. The team's 54-hole score of 880 (+16) was 11
th in the 16-team field.
Texas A&M, led by medalist Chandler Phillips, won the event at 25-under 839. The Aggies were followed by Kansas (845; -19), Marquette (847; -17), Notre Dame (850; -14), and host Wisconsin (860; -4).
Phillips won the event by two strokes, shooting a 12-under 204. He closed the event with a four-under 68.
The event was hosted by the University of Wisconsin at the par-72, 7,259-yard University Ridge Golf Course in Madison, Wis.
The Bulldogs return to action Sept. 24 at the Northern Kentucky Invitational.
