Butler opened the fall season with an impressive performance at the Purdue Invitational in West Lafayette, Ind.

Butler's
Michael Dickson and
Mason Dragos dominated the B Flight as the teammates met in the championship match. The freshman Dickson won the match to capture an individual championship in his first collegiate competition.

Lope Adelakun had similar success in the D Flight, winning three matches (including two in three sets) before defeating Bryce Bonin of Ball State in the championship match to take that title.
Two of Butler's doubles teams also won their respective flights over the weekend.

"I thought our guys had a ton of positive energy all weekend long," said Butler coach Parker Ross. "They showed they are hungry to have another successful year and are focused on the process of improving each and every match. It was really great to see our guys step up and play solid doubles, which was our biggest weakness last year."

In Flight A competition,
Aviv Ben Shabat posted a straight-set win over Marquette's Luke Smrek.

Adrian Mag advanced to the championship match of Flight C, winning three matches in straight sets. He lost to Ball State's Jan Jirus in that title bout.
Ari Gerstein won his opening match in the flight before falling to Jirus.

After dropping his first match, freshman
Addison Cazier rebounded to win two matches in the back draw of the Flight E singles competition.

In doubles play, Dragos and Gerstein teamed up to win the B Flight, cruising to four wins with the closest score being 6-3.

Adelakun and Mag won the C Flight with four wins.

The Bulldogs continue fall play at the Western Michigan Invitational, which begins Saturday.
