Pempek Earns BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week Accolades


NEW YORK – Butler forward Breann Pempek has been recognized as the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week, an announcement made by the conference office on Monday, Sept. 18. Pempek scored the game-winner against Indiana State on Sunday. Her teammate Hannah Luedtke landed on the BIG East Weekly Honor Roll. The BU keeper made two saves allowing the Bulldogs to post their sixth-straight shutout victory.
 
BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week

Pempek delivered the game-winning goal for RV Butler against Indiana State on Sunday. The junior connected on a header in the second half. The first goal of the season for Pempek went down as the fifth of her career, sending the Bulldogs to their sixth consecutive shutout victory.
 
BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week
Katie Day, Providence, Jr., D
Day anchored a defense which limited two opponents last week to a combined eight shots, including just three on target, as the Friars scored shutout victories over Saint Joseph's and UMass Lowell. Providence limited the Hawks to six total shots in a 3-0 win before matching the weekly opponent low for just two strikes by the River Hawks in a 2-0 victory. Day also added a shot in the win over Saint Joseph's.
 
BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week
Shelby Hogan, Providence, R-Fr., GK
Hogan scored back-to-back shutout victories, totaling a trio of saves in 180 minutes of action. The redshirt freshman denied both shots faced on Thursday in a 3-0 win over Saint Joseph's, before recording a save against UMass Lowell on Sunday in a 2-0 victory. The wins were the third and fourth straight for the Friars, as Hogan improved to 5-4-0 on the season.
 
BIG EAST Freshman of the Week
Christina Rodgers, Providence, Fr., M
Rodgers led all rookies with three points last week, scoring an unassisted insurance goal in the Friars' 3-0 victory over Saint Joseph's on Thursday before assisting on Casey Estey's game winner on Sunday against UMass Lowell.
 
BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll
Haylee Blach, Creighton, R-Fr., D
Blach's first career assist came in the sixth minute on Saturday night as the Bluejays jumped out to a 1-0 lead against local foe Nebraska-Omaha. Creighton went on to win 3-1 with Blach supporting the defensive effort in both games last week, as the Bluejays outshot the Mavericks and Drake, 28-17.
 
Maddy Henry, Marquette, So., GK
Henry made 22 saves in a 0-1-1 week for the 19th-ranked Golden Eagles, including 15 in a scoreless draw against Illinois State on Thursday. Her 15 saves rank fifth all-time in program history and are the most for an MU keeper in a single match since 2001.
 
Emily Kuefler, Villanova, Sr., D
Kuefler was the BIG EAST's points leader last week, scoring a pair of goals in a 1-1 week for the Wildcats. The senior found the back of the net in a notable win over Harvard on Friday before supplying Villanova's lone score Sunday at Drexel.
 
Hannah Luedtke, Butler, R-So., GK
Luedtke helped Butler post their sixth-straight shutout win on Sunday afternoon with two saves in a 1-0 victory over Indiana State. Luedtke is now 3-1 on the year with a 0.22 goals against average and a team-high 19 saves.
 
Arielle Schechtman, Georgetown, Sr., GK
Schechtman collected her seventh shutout of the season, denying the lone shot faced in No. 18 Georgetown's 2-0 win at Towson on Sunday.
