Eric Dick has been named BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week, as announced by the conference office Monday (Sept. 25) afternoon. Teammate
Brandon Guhl earned one of the spots on the league's weekly honor roll as the duo combined to lead Butler to a 1-0 road win over Providence Saturday night.
Dick had a four-save shutout performance at Providence. Two of the saves were sprawling stops made with his leg as Friar attackers shot from point blank range. The redshirt senior posted his third shutout of the season, and he now has 22 solo shutouts in his career. On the season, Dick has a record of 6-1 and a save percentage of .806, which is second-best in the BIG EAST.
This is Dick's second weekly honor of the season, as he also picked up BIG EAST honors on Aug. 28 after orchestrating a 1-0 overtime shutout against UIC in the season opener.
Guhl earned BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll recognition for his contribution in the win over Providence. Guhl scored the game's only goal in the 31
st minute of play. His only shot of the contest gave him his seventh goal of the season, which leads the BIG EAST.
Butler is 6-2 on the season and is 2-0 in early BIG EAST play with wins over Creighton and Providence, the two teams picked at the top of the conference's preseason poll by the league's head coaches.
The Bulldogs return home Saturday (Sept. 30), hosting St. John's in another BIG EAST battle. Butler and the Red Storm are the only two BIG EAST teams with 2-0 marks to open the league slate. Kick-off is set for 7 p.m. and the game will be streamed live on the ButlerBulldogs Facebook page.
