Monaghan, Leonard Earn BIG EAST Recognition after 2-0 Week

NEW YORK – Two Butler women's soccer players earned BIG EAST honors on Monday after an announcement from the conference office. Forward Paige Monaghan was recognized as the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week for posting seven points in a pair of BU victories. Julia Leonard was tabbed BIG EAST Freshman of the Week by helping Butler shutout each opponent.

BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week
Paige Monaghan, Butler, Jr., F
Monaghan was unstoppable last week, totaling seven points in wins over Chicago State and RV Marquette. The junior registered a pair of assists in Thursday's lopsided win over the Cougars before having a hand in all three goals in Sunday's victory over the Golden Eagles. Monaghan scored what would be the game winner in the 13th minute before assisting on Gabrielle Lemkuil's insurance score in the 55th, then completed the offensive output with another strike in the 77th. For the season, Monaghan has 10 points off three goals and four assists.

BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week
Meaghan Nally, Georgetown, So., D
Nally anchored the Hoyas' defense which held an aggressive St. John's attack without a shot on goal for the first time this season. No. 15 Georgetown claimed its eighth shutout of the season and stretched its unbeaten streak to five games with Sunday's 1-0 victory over the Red Storm.

BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week
Shelby Hogan, Providence, R-Fr., GK
Hogan denied all three shots faced on Saturday against Villanova to lead the Friars to their sixth win in their last seven outings, including their fourth clean sheet during that span. Hogan bumped her season save percentage to .807 with the 1-0 victory over the Wildcats.

BIG EAST Freshman of the Week
Julia Leonard, Butler, Fr., D
Leonard led the Bulldogs to back-to-back shutout victories last week, beginning with a 10-0 win over Chicago State on Thursday followed by a 3-0 win over RV Marquette in Sunday's BIG EAST opener. RV Butler outshot its opponents 49-10 last week, including a 28-3 margin in strikes on goal. Butler's shutout streak has been extended to over 806 minutes while stretching its winning streak to eight games.

BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll
Katie Day, Providence, Jr., D
Day led the defensive line in the Friars' 1-0 shutout win over Villanova on Saturday. Providence outshot the Wildcats 16-8, holding Villanova to just two second-half strikes.

Caitlin Farrell, Georgetown, Jr., F
Farrell buried the game-winning goal in the 81st minute Sunday against St. John's to lead the Hoyas to their fourth win in the last five games.

Cassy Harrigan, Seton Hall, Fr., M
Harrigan came up clutch for the Pirates with the game-tying score in the 87th minute Saturday at DePaul. The game would end in a 1-1 draw thanks to Harrigan's second goal of the season.

Hannah McNulty, Providence, Fr., F
McNulty scored the game-winning goal in the 77th minute against Villanova on Saturday, leading the Friars to their fifth consecutive win.

Sydney Schembri, Xavier, Fr., F
