INDIANAPOLIS- Although the season came to an end in May, many Butler baseball players took the field over the summer. Bulldog baseball was well represented across the country thanks to a strong and successful showing by the student-athletes in multiple summer leagues.
Brock Balderson
Balderson joined the Galion Graders for the summer and took the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League by storm. The closer recorded three saves and a team-high 32 strikeouts over 28.1 innings pitched. Balderson was named GLSCL honorable mention and was selected to the All-Star Game.
Sam Hubbe
Hubbe was a key pitcher for the Lafayette Aviators this summer. The right-hander got the win in the Prospect League Championship game in which he pitched three scoreless innings and did not allow a hit. He held an overall record of three wins and no losses and struck out 20 batters over 23.2 innings pitched.
Kevin Napoleon
Napoleon had a strong season with the Saugerties Stallions in the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League. Through 31.1 innings the relief pitcher allowed just nine earned runs and struck out 33 batters. Napoleon appeared in 18 games which was the second-most on the team.
Michael Hartnagel
Hartnagel took the field for the Vermont Mountaineers of the New England Collegiate Baseball League this summer. The shortstop knocked in four runs on 27 hits and appeared in 39 games. He also scored 23 runs and stole 10 bases.
Quentin Miller
Miller was an ace on the mound for the Kokomo Jackrabbits this summer. The starting pitcher allowed just 19 earned runs over 50 innings, ending the season with a 3.42 ERA. Miller was named the Pioneer League Pitcher of the Week twice throughout the season for his performance, which included 55 strikeouts. On July 21, Miller was dominant on the mound and struck out a franchise record 15 batters.
Harrison Freed
Freed was a vital player for the D.C. Grays of the Cal Ripken Collegiate Baseball League this summer. He finished with a .330 batting average, picking up 38 hits in 35 games. Freed led the team in home runs with seven. He also showed stellar defense in right field, committing just one error throughout the season.
Garrett Christman
Christman played in 44 games for the LaCrosse Loggers of the Northwoods League. The infielder finished the season with a .269 batting average and three home runs. Christman racked up 43 hits and scored 26 runs for the Loggers.
