Butler holds a 20-17 advantage in the all-time series with Marquette after sweeping the 2016-17 season series.

The teams first played Dec. 16, 1922. The last eight match-ups have been as BIG EAST foes as Butler joined the league prior to the 2013-14 season. The teams actually met twice in the 2012-13 season prior to Butler joining the league as the Bulldogs won in the Maui Invitational and Marquette won in the second round of the NCAA Tournament, which ended up being Brad Stevens' final game as coach of the Bulldogs.

Kelan Martin has games of 27 and 22 points, respectively, among six career meetings with Marquette. He has averaged 12.2 points per game against MU.
Kamar Baldwin averaged 13.0 points per game in two games against Marquette as a freshman last season.
Aaron Thompson had 12 points at Creighton Tuesday, which equaled his combined scoring output from the previous six games.
Henry Baddley has made 19 of 22 attempts from the field dating back to the Dec. 9 game against Youngstown State.
Kelan Martin has scored 20 or more points in six of the team's last seven games.
• Butler has scored 80 or more points in 10 of the team's 18 games this season, including four of five BIG EAST contests (with 79 points in the fifth game).
• Through five BIG EAST games, Butler is averaging 86.4 points per game. They are also giving up an average of 88.6 points per game.

FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS: Butler welcomes Marquette to Hinkle Fieldhouse Friday night for a 6:30 p.m. tip. The Bulldogs will look to stop a three-game losing skid. Returning to Hinkle Fieldhouse, where the Bulldogs have posted a 9-1 record this season, will help. Marquette's backcourt of Markus Howard and Andrew Rowsey are the BIG EAST's two leading scorers. Both teams will turn around and play MLK Day match-ups on Monday.

BUILDING A RESUME: Butler has five wins against the KenPom Top 100 at this point in the season. That includes a win over No. 1-ranked Villanova. The Bulldogs also own wins over Ohio State, Utah, Georgetown, and Furman. All six of Butler's losses have come against teams ranked in the KenPom Top 35 (with three of those coming on the road and two others on a neutral court). KenPom rankings are through the games of Wednesday, Jan. 10.

TOUGH STRETCH: Butler has emerged from a portion of the schedule that saw the Bulldogs play four consecutive Top 25 opponents. It marked only the second time in program history that Butler faced four straight Top 25 foes, joining the run to the 2010 national championship game. Butler did not face four consecutive Top 25 opponents in its run to the 2011 national championship game.

For the first time in program history, Butler played Top-five ranked opponents (No. 1 Villanova and No. 5 Xavier) in back-to-back games. Top 10 back-to-back had previously occurred twice (1962 and 2010 NCAA Tournaments).

LONG-TIME SHOOTER, FIRST-TIME LEADER: For the first time in his Butler career, Paul Jorgensen led the team in scoring with 18 points Tuesday night at Creighton. Jorgensen matched a career-high with eight made field goals. The redshirt junior is third on the team in scoring at 12.1 points per game, and leads the team with 40 three-pointers. Jorgensen has 13 double-figure scoring games this season after having only eight in 73 games at George Washington in his two seasons there before transferring to Butler.

SCORE(AND)BOARD: Senior Kelan Martin had 10 points and 11 rebounds in Tuesday's loss at No. 25 Creighton. It marked the fifth double-double of the season and the 15th of his career. The 10 points ended a six-game streak of scoring 20 or more points for Martin, who has 11 games with 20 or more on the season. His scoring average of 22.6 points per game in BIG EAST contests is fifth in the conference.

HOT AT HINKLE: Butler is 9-1 this season at Hinkle Fieldhouse. At Hinkle, the Bulldogs are averaging 88.0 points per game while shooting 54 percent from the field. Butler has reached 80 points in nine of the games. Butler is 3-5 away from its home court, averaging 70.2 ppg on 41-percent shooting.

ON THE BOARDS: Butler has out-rebounded nine of its last 11 opponents, including a 37-32 advantage over Creighton Tuesday. Kelan Martin led the Bulldogs with 11 rebounds. Kamar Baldwin has pulled down five or more rebounds in eight straight games, including a season-high nine against Villanova Dec. 30.

Baldwin's average of 6.6 rebounds per game in BIG EAST play leads the Bulldogs and is 12th in the conference. Sean McDermott's average of 6.4 is tied for 14th.

DYNAMIC DUO: Kelan Martin (22.6) and Kamar Baldwin (21.4) are combining to average 44 points per game through the team's first five BIG EAST contests. They have five 25-point performances between them in those five games. Butler had only 14 25-point outings in the 2016-17, 2015-16, and 2014-15 seasons combined.

Twenty of Martin's 27 points against Seton Hall Saturday came in the second half. He is the first Bulldog to score 20 in a half since Baldwin had all 21 of his points in the second half of a win over Xavier Jan. 14, 2017.

SOPHOMORE SURGE: Entering BIG EAST play, sophomore Kamar Baldwin had one 20-point outing among his first 47 career games. He has two in the team's last five games, a career-high 31 points at Georgetown and a 28-point game at Xavier. In between, he posted 19 points in the win over (then) No. 1 Villanova.

HANDLING AND APPLYING PRESSURE: Butler committed only nine turnovers Tuesday at Creighton, the fourth time this season with single-digit miscues. The Bulldogs are committing only 11.7 turnovers per game this season. Butler is forcing 14.7 from their opponents. Butler is averaging 6.9 steals per game, highlighted by Kamar Baldwin and his 1.8 swipes per game. His mark is fourth in the conference. Kelan Martin, Paul Jorgensen and Aaron Thompson also average one steal or better per game.

BACK AND FORTH: Through five BIG EAST games, Butler is averaging 86.4 points per game. They are also giving up an average of 88.6 points per game. The Bulldogs trail only Villanova in scoring in conference contests. Nine of the 10 BIG EAST teams are allowing 80 or more points in conference games, with the Bulldogs' average allowance of 88.6 ranking last currently.

THAT'S OFFENSIVE: Butler is now 9-1 this season when scoring 80 or more points, and 11-3 when scoring north of 70. The Bulldogs are 9-0 when shooting a better field goal percentage than their opponent and 10-0 when shooting better than 50 percent from the field.
