THE SERIES: Butler and DePaul will meet for the 15th time Saturday as the Bulldogs hold an 8-6 series lead. The Bulldogs have won seven straight in the series. The series dates back to the 1938-39 season. Two of the match-ups came with DePaul ranked in the top five nationally as the #1 Blue Demons won in 1979-80 and the #3 Blue Demons won during the 1980-81 season.

Butler won both match-ups a season ago: 70-69 in overtime, in Illinois Jan. 21, and an 82-66 victory at Hinkle Fieldhouse Feb. 19.

• In BIG EAST play, Kelan Martin (22.3ppg) and Kamar Baldwin (21.6ppg) are 1-2 in scoring.
• Butler is committing only 11.1 turnovers per game, which is 20th nationally. That number drops to 8.7 per game in BIG EAST play.
Kelan Martin scored a career-high 37 points Jan. 12 against Marquette, the most by a Butler player since 1998.
• Martin (13.0) and Baldwin (12.0) both averaged double figures against DePaul last season. Nate Fowler averaged 8.5 points per game.
Paul Jorgensen played DePaul twice during his time at George Washington. He had nine points and four assists in the most recent outing (Dec. 22, 2015).
• Senior Tyler Wideman leads the BIG EAST in field goal percentage at .698.
• KenPom considers Butler's schedule to date to be the seventh-toughest among the nation's 351 teams.

1-2 PUNCH: Senior Kelan Martin and sophomore Kamar Baldwin hold the top two spots in scoring during BIG EAST play. Martin leads the conference with an average of 22.3 points per game and Baldwin is second with an average of 21.6.

LAST TIME OUT: Kamar Baldwin had a game-high 25 points, including a career-best four three-pointers Monday afternoon as Butler fell, 70-60, at Providence. Providence out-scored the Bulldogs, 45-31, in the second half to turn a four-point Butler halftime advantage into the 10-point PC win.

'BIG' EAST PLAY: Kamar Baldwin has three career games where he has scored 25 or more points. All three of those have come since BIG EAST play began Dec. 27 (a total of seven games). In addition to 25 points Monday at Providence, Baldwin had a career-high 31 points at Georgetown Dec. 27 and 28 points at Xavier Jan. 2.

TAKE A FEW DAYS: Butler's loss at Providence Monday ended a stretch that saw the Bulldogs play four games in 10 days. Butler started classes Tuesday and will have five days between games for the first time since BIG EAST play began Dec. 27. Following Saturday's game at DePaul, the team will have a week off prior to hosting St. John's at Hinkle Fieldhouse Jan. 27.

TIGHT GRIP: The Bulldogs committed only eight turnovers Monday at Providence, one game after turning the ball over only three times in the win over Marquette Jan. 12. In seven BIG EAST games, Butler has committed only 61 turnovers (an average of 8.7 per game). That figure leads the conference. For the entire season, the Bulldogs are only committing 11.1 turnovers per game. That mark is 20th nationally.

The three turnovers against Marquette were Butler's lowest total since the Bulldogs also committed only three miscues against Creighton on January 14, 2014.

CAREER NIGHT: Senior Kelan Martin scored a career-best 37 points in the Jan. 12 win over Marquette. The 6-7 forward was incredibly efficient in doing so, needing only 17 shots (making 12). He converted on all nine of his free throw attempts. For Martin, it was his third career 30-point outing and bettered his previous career-high of 35 points set against Georgetown on Feb. 2, 2016. The 37 points are the most by a Butler player in 20 years (Matthew Graves, now the head coach at South Alabama, scored 42 points against Cleveland State on Jan. 15, 1998).

Martin earned BIG EAST Player of the Week honors following his career night against Marquette, his third weekly honor of the season and the seventh of his career.

CHANGE OF PACE: In BIG EAST play, Butler is averaging 83.7 points per game. That mark is second in the conference. The 60 points scored at Providence were a BIG EAST-low for the Bulldogs this season. The Bulldogs are allowing 85.1 points per game in league play, which is last in the BIG EAST. Butler surrendered 70 points to Providence, the lowest total for a Butler opponent in BIG EAST play so far this season through seven games.

HELPING HAND: Junior Paul Jorgensen has handed out 11 assists over his past two games. His six assists against Marquette Jan. 12 were a season-high and one off his career-high of seven set during his time at George Washington. On the season, Jorgensen has 51 assists against only 14 turnovers.

ROSTER ADDITION: Jordan Tucker, a consensus Top 100 player nationally in his high school class, has signed a financial aid agreement and has transferred to Butler from Duke University. Butler made the announcement Jan. 18. Once the 6-7 forward sits one year to fulfill NCAA transfer requirements, he will have sophomore standing on the 2018-19 roster and be eligible to compete in games for Butler once the Fall, 2018 semester concludes.

Tucker played in two regular season games for Duke this season before deciding to transfer after the first semester concluded. ESPN ranked Tucker No. 40 overall in its class of 2017, while Rivals ranked him No. 68 overall and Scout pegged him at No. 78.

EFFICIENCY PERSONIFIED: Senior Tyler Wideman leads the BIG EAST in field goal percentage, connecting on 69.8 percent of his attempts so far this season. Wideman has been consistently efficient as well. In his 19 games played, there have only been two times when Wideman has connected on fewer than 50 percent of his attempts (0-for-2 against Texas and 3-for-9 against Purdue).

Wideman was a large part of Butler owning a 60-28 advantage in points in the paint Jan. 12 against Marquette, the Bulldogs' third-highest margin of the season (behind only wins over Kennesaw State and Youngstown State).

ALL-AROUND PERFORMANCE: Kamar Baldwin turned in another strong statline Jan. 12 against Marquette, posting 19 points (on 9-of-14 shooting), five rebounds, four assists, two steals, and one block. Baldwin has pulled down five or more rebounds in 10 straight games (including Monday's game at Providence). He has swiped two or more assists in 12 games this season, contributing to his average of 1.8 steals per game, which is third in the conference.

LOCKING IT DOWN: Marquette's backcourt duo of Markus Howard and Andrew Rowsey entered the Jan. 12 game averaging a combined 49.2 points per game in BIG EAST play. Butler limited them to 31. Howard was scoreless in the first half and was 0-of-4 from behind the arc.

BUILDING A RESUME: Butler has four wins against the KenPom Top 100 at this point in the season. That includes a win over No. 1-ranked Villanova. The Bulldogs also own wins over Ohio State, Utah and Marquette (Furman is rated No. 101 and Georgetown is No. 110). Six of Butler's seven losses have come against teams ranked in the KenPom Top 40 (and Providence is ranked No. 57). KenPom ranks Butler at No. 42 nationally. KenPom rankings are through the games of Wednesday, Jan. 18.

TOUGH COMPETITION: Through the games of Wednesday, Jan. 17, Butler's schedule is viewed as the seventh-toughest nationally by KenPom.com.

HOT AT HINKLE: Butler is now 10-1 this season at Hinkle Fieldhouse. At Hinkle, the Bulldogs are averaging 88.5 points per game while shooting 54 percent from the field. Butler has reached 80 points in 10 of the games. Butler is 3-6 away from its home court, averaging 69.1 ppg on 40-percent shooting.

THIN MARGINS: In Butler's 13 wins, the Bulldogs have gotten to the line more than their opponents (237-219), have out-rebounded foes by an average of 35.5-29.7, and have seen Paul Jorgensen and Tyler Wideman combine for an average of 25.6 points per game. In the team's seven losses, opponents have gotten to the line 158 times compared to only 87 for Butler. Opponents have also out-rebounded Butler by an average of 37.0-34.0. Jorgensen and Wideman combine for 13.3 points per game in the team's losses.
