@ButlerSoftball Spring Preview: Outfielders

Head Coach Scott Hall's outfield for the 2018 spring season will feature All-BIG EAST selection Jenna Foreman and three-year starter Sarah Dixon, along with returners Alyssa Garcia and Payton Longest. Freshman Emma Morton will also see time in the outfield for the Bulldogs.

"They can flat out get a ball, they make the outfield look pretty small. Anything up in the air is up for grabs for those guys," Hall said. "They do a good job being the last line of defense for us, we are looking for solid defense out of them."

#20 Sarah Dixon
Senior
Pendleton, Ind.

Dixon is a returning three-year starter for the Bulldogs. During her sophomore and junior season, she started all 52 games for Butler. Her junior year, she led the team with 27 RBIs, tied for the team lead with five home runs, and her 34 runs and 10 doubles were also tied for the team lead. Dixon was named MVP of the BIG EAST Tournament in 2016.

"Sarah is a true triple threat at the plate for us. She has homerun power and can beat out a bunt, we are looking for her to use all facets of her game this season," Hall said. "Defensively, she's back where she belongs with grass under her feet and we're excited to see her back in the outfield."

#21 Jenna Foreman
Junior
Winfield, Ill.

Foreman is a returning All-BIG EAST second-team selection for the Bulldogs. She led the team with a .371 batting average which was fifth in the conference. Foreman set a new Butler single-season record with 30 stolen bases which was second in the BIG EAST. Her 57 hits on the season were fourth in the BIG EAST.

"Jenna had a phenomenal year last year," Hall said. "She's been working on things that have made her more consistent and that's what we're really looking for out of her this year. She brings great speed to our lineup and we're looking forward to her junior season."

#3 Alyssa Garcia
Sophomore
Schaumburg, Ill.

Garcia started 46 games for the Bulldogs her freshman year. She had 16 hits which included two doubles and she had three RBIs. She was successful in all six of her stolen base attempts and led the BIG EAST in sacrifice bunts with nine.

"Alyssa does a great job in the outfield," Hall said. "This year we look for her to use her speed efficiently and be more consistent at the plate. Alyssa is a vocal leader for us and keeps the dugout in the game."

#6 Payton Longest
Sophomore
Zionsville, Ind.

Longest saw action in 36 games a freshman. She had five hits and scored six runs with one RBI. She had an on-base percentage of .343

"Payton is a very hard-working kid and will see some time in the outfield this season," Hall said. "She is consistent at the plate and will be in the mix for starting time."

#4 Emma Morton
Freshman
Carmel, Ind.

Morton is in her first season as a Bulldog and will see time in the outfield this spring. Before coming to Butler, Morton was a three-year starter for Carmel High School where her team posted a 20-1 record her senior year.

"Emma is going to be a key pinch runner for us this season," Hall said. "She will also see some time in the outfield. We are excited to see what role she is going to play for us."
