The Bulldogs continued the indoor track and field schedule Saturday, traveling to West Lafayette, Ind., for the Fred Wilt Invitational hosted by Purdue.
Eleven teams joined the host Boilermakers at Lambert Fieldhouse. In addition to Butler, the meet included Alabama State, Anderson, Bahamas, Ball State, Bethel, Fontbonne, Northern Kentucky, Tennessee Tech, Valparaiso and Wabash.
The result of the weekend belonged to
Graham Stecz, who won the 600 meters in a time of 1:23.29. The senior edged Purdue's Christopher Bluish by .11 of a second.
Kyle Harris won section 2 and was third overall in the 800 meters, posting a time of 1:57.55.
Also finishing third in his event was
Michael Carey, using a time of 4:22.17 in the mile. Freshman
Jackson Martin was third in the 3,000 meters with a time of 8:54.31.
Wade Walder had a pair of strong performances Saturday. He finished fourth in the pole vault with a lifetime-best height of 14'7". In the 60-meter hurdles, Walder's time of 8.60 seconds moved him into seventh on Butler's all-time list.
Butler finished third in the 4x400 relay with Walder, Stecz,
Connor Fuller and Jake Powers combining for a time of 3:26.25.
In women's action,
Kristen Johnson finished fourth in the 3,000 meters in a time of 10:46.81.
Coach
Matt Roe kept a large portion of his roster in Indianapolis over the weekend to focus on training.
The Bulldogs return to action next weekend, participating in the Meyo Invitational hosted by Notre Dame.
