CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The Butler swim team wrapped up the regular season over the weekend by competing in the 2018 Illinois Duals. BU competed against Illinois, Youngstown State and Olivet Nazarene. Head Coach
Maurice Stewart named
Natalie Rohweder "Swimmer of the Meet" for her outstanding performances in the 200 IM, 200 breast stroke and in the medley relay.
"We did a good job racing against three really good teams today," Stewart said. "We came into this meet with some tired student-athletes, but the team did a nice job supporting each other during races. I think that will play a big factor on our results at BIG EAST meet coming up in Mid-February."
The 400 Medley Relay team of
Grace Grzybek,
Emma Spotts,
Emma Harris and
Tori Horton posted the second-fastest time of the season at the Illinois Duals. They placed fifth overall with a time of 4:04.45. Grzybek posted a 1:00.05 lead-off split and Spotts followed with a solid breast leg that got BU back into the race (1:06.7). Another solid split was posted by Harris at 1:01 and Horton would end the race at 55.7.
A trio of Bulldogs swam in the 1000 Free. Annah VanGheem was the top BU swimmer in the event. She placed fourth with a time of 11:17.78.
Andee Bauer finished seventh (11:27.94) and
Rachel Burke took ninth (11:40.39).
Sydney Gurry and
Carson Middlebrook were active for BU in the 200 Free. Gurry took ninth with a time of 2:01.64. Middlebrook finished 12th at 2:05.34. In the 50 Free, Grzybek placed sixth with her time of 25.78.
Butler's top swimmer in the 200 IM was
Emma Harris. Her season-best time of 2:18.50 was good enough for ninth place.
Emma Spotts placed 13th in the 200 IM (2:21.17) and
Natalie Rohweder was just off her season-best time at 2:18.93. BU also welcomed back
Myranda Valeiras who posted a time of 2:15.83.
Coach Stewart got a solid swim out of
Olivia Allen in the 200 Fly. Allen placed fifth with a time of 2:13.69. Jacque Goetz and
Rachel Burke finished back-to-back in 11th and 12
th.
One of the best performances of the meet came in the 200 Back with Grzybek earning third place (2:09.07).
Alexis Faith posted her best time of the season in the 200 Back to finish sixth (2:14.28).
Butler had two swimmers finish back-to-back in the 500 Free.
Abbie Linek finished sixth (5:27.63) and
Olivia Allen placed seventh (5:28.54). Similar results were posted in the 200 Breast with Rohweder and Valeiras taking seventh and eighth place. Rohweder touched the wall at 2:33.63. Valeiras came in at 2:38.64.
Butler's 400 Free Relay team of
Madison Himler, Horton, Van Gheem and
Abbie Linek finished seventh in the Illinois Duals. They posted a time of 3:49.86.
