The Bulldogs are in Staten Island, N.Y., for this weekend's BIG EAST Indoor Track and Field Championships. The 2018 championships, which run Friday and Saturday, will be held at the Ocean Breeze Track & Field Athletic Complex.
The Bulldog men will be led by
Daniel Garcia and freshman
Barry Keane.
Garcia will run both the mile and the 3,000 meters at this weekend's championships. He currently holds the sixth-fastest time in Butler history in the mile with a time of 4:01.32. At the Gladstein Invitational, Garcia posted a personal-best time of 8:08.11 in the 3,000 meters.
Keane looks to continue a standout freshman season at this weekend's championship in the 3,000 and 5,000 meters. He currently holds the second-fastest time in Butler history in the 5,000 meters, crossing the line in 13:58.85 at the Husky Classic. At the Meyo Invitational, Keane posted a time of 8:04.50 in the 3,000 meters which is seventh on Butler's all-time list.
Senior
Bobby Johnson will also compete in the 3,000 and 5,000 meters. Johnson posted a lifetime-best in the 3,000 meters at the Husky Classic, crossing the line in 8:06.75. His best time in the 5,000 meters clocks in at 14:26.03.
In the field,
Wade Walder will look for another BIG EAST championship in the Heptathlon. He will also compete in the high jump and pole vault.
On the women's side,
Josephine Thestrup looks to continue a successful sophomore campaign. She will compete in the mile and 3,000 meters. Thestrup is coming off a first-place finish in the mile at the Husky Classic with a personal-best time of 4:45.70. In the 3,000 meters, she currently holds the tenth-fastest time in Butler history (9:39.17).
Allie Vogeler will compete in the 400 meters where she currently holds the Butler indoor record with a time of 56.50.
