GENEVA, Ohio – The Butler swim team set two new school records at the 2018 BIG EAST Swimming & Diving Championships presented by Jeep. Day one events included the 800 Free Relay and the 200 Medley Relay.

The 800 Free Relay team of
Abbie Linek,
Megan Hanson,
Andee Bauer and
Harriet Davies placed sixth overall with a new school record time of 7:42.87. Linek led-off with a 1:54.90 split, a time that places her third on the BU all-time top ten list. Hanson, another freshman, posted a 1:54.97 split, Bauer finished in 1:58.30 and Davies swam 1:54.67.
The second school record to fall on Wednesday came in the 200 Medley Relay.
Grace Grzybek,
Emma Spotts,
Annah Van Gheem, and
Tori Horton smashed the old school record by 1.8 seconds to place fifth overall. The group posted a time of 1:44.08.
Grzybek led off with a 26.23 split in the back and Spotts would post the third fastest split in the conference in the breast at 28.79. VanGheem swam 25.52 in the fly and Horton capped off the action with a 23.54 in the free.
Day 2 will begin at 10 a.m. ET with the prelims for the 500-free, 200-IM, 50-free and the men's one-meter diving with the finals being run in the third session of the championships at 6 p.m. on Thursday. The finals of the 200-freestyle relay will close out the session.
