LEXIINGTON, S.C. – The Bulldogs pushed a run across home plate in the 11th inning to claim a 5-4 win over George Mason on Friday afternoon. The victory moves Butler to 5-0 on the season.
Garrett Christman delivered the game-winning hit against the Patriots in the 11th inning with a single to right field that scored
Michael Hartnagel. BU trailed 4-1 early, but a three-run seventh inning would knot the score at 4-4 and the Christman single would keep Butler undefeated.
George Mason scored in the top of the first and would move ahead 2-0 with another un in the fourth inning. Butler chipped away at the lead with a score in the fifth off an RBI double to left center from
James Gargano. Hartnagel led off the fifth with a single to right and would come around to score the first run of the game for BU.
George Mason would try to run away with the game by adding two runs in the seventh, but Butler would respond with three runs in the bottom of seven to tie the game.
Gehrig Parker led the charge with a lead-off single up the middle and the senior right fielder would move around to third after a Hartnagel single to right center.
Connor Dall would single to right field to score Parker and a sac bunt would move runners around into scoring position.
Garrett Christman came up huge in crunch time with a two-RBI single to center that scored both Hartnagel and Dall in the seventh. The reigning BIG EAST Player of the Week would come back around in the lineup to win the game for BU in the 11th with an RBI single to right that scored Hartnagel.
Connor Mitchell got the start on the mound, but the win fell to
John MacCauley who improved to 2-0. Mitchell struck out seven over 4.2 innings of work and was replaced on the mound by
Quentin Miller.
Kevin Napoleon and
Josh Walker also saw time on the hill.
Butler and George Mason will return to Lexington County Stadium tomorrow for a double header. The first game will get underway at 10 AM.
