Meet program for Championship Saturday (PDF)
The first day of competition at the 2018 BIG EAST Indoor Championships is in the books and the Bulldogs posted some impressive performances on Friday. The championships are taking place at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in Staten Island, N.Y.

Competition concludes Saturday with a majority of the finals. Friday included finals in six women's events and five men's events. The BIG EAST Digital Network will stream Saturday's action, just as they did on Friday.

On the men's side, Butler enters Saturday in fourth place with 22 points.

Freshman
Barry Keane finished third in the 5,000 meters in his BIG EAST Indoor Championships debut. He posted a time of 14:03.92. Georgetown's Jonathan Green won the event. Butler's
Jonathan Collier and
Bobby Johnson were eighth and ninth, respectively.
Â
Butler's Distance Medley Relay team took second in a time of 9:51.49.
Daniel Garcia,
Evan Johnson,
Kyle Harris and
Graham Stecz comprised the team.

Wade Walder placed third in the pole vault with a mark of 4.40m.
Luke Russell was eighth in the long jump at 6.51m.

Walder,
Richard Clark and
Matt Fisch are competing in the heptathlon. Walder posted the best performance in the shot put (11.98m), while Clark's time of 7.06 in the 60-meter dash was the best among the competitors. There are three events remaining in the heptathlon on Saturday.

Several other Bulldogs set themselves up for Saturday success in Friday's qualifying. Garcia claimed the top qualifying time in the mile, crossing the line in 4:12.26. Johnson will also be in Saturday's final. He qualified with a time of 4:14.81.

Walder and
Garrett Kern each qualified in the 60-meter hurdles.
Tim Vestuto took the eighth qualifying spot in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.06.

In the women's competition, Butler enters Saturday's events in seventh place.

Niki Ezeh placed third in the pentathlon with 3,105 points. Her heave of 12.36m in the shot put was the best mark of the competition, while she also tied for the best performance in the high jump at 1.52m.

Butler's team of
Josephine Thestrup,
Angelina Ellis,
Madeline Miller, and
Aiden Smith finished fifth in the Distance Medley Relay. The Bulldogs clocked a time of 11:51.41.

Several of Butler's women had strong showings in prelims Friday to put them in Saturday's finals. Among that group is Thestrup, who had the second-best time in the mile prelims. She crossed the line with at time of 5:16.03.

Allie Vogeler qualified fifth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 55.88. Freshman
Kelly Mindak grabbed the eighth qualifying spot in the 800 meters (2:13.96).
