Butler's men placed fifth and the women finished seventh at the 2018 BIG EAST Indoor Championships. The championships concluded Saturday at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in Staten Island, N.Y.

Villanova won both the men's and women's competitions with Marquette placing second.

A number of strong performances by the Bulldogs contributed to 74 points on the men's side and 31 for the women.
Â
Daniel Garcia placed second in the mile in a time of 4:10.39. He was just behind Georgetown's Amos Bartelsmeyer, who won the event in 4:09.10.

Freshman
Barry Keane, who finished third in Friday's 5,000 meters, followed up that performance with a second-place finish in the 3,000 meters. His time of 8:07.13 trailed only Villanova's 8:05.39. The Bulldogs went 2-5-6 in the event as Garcia (8:13.85) and
Bobby Johnson (8:16.79) also grabbed points for Butler in the event.

Wade Walder finished second in the heptathlon with 5,179 points, completing the events one day after placing third in the pole vault.
Richard Clark finished fourth in the heptathlon. Walder's point total broke his own school record, which he set one year ago.

Walder also finished fifth in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.46; teammate
Garrett Kern was seventh (8.60).

Tim Vestuto's time of 7.08 was good enough for eighth in the 60 meters.

Sophomore
Josephine Thestrup was fourth in the mile in a time of 4:44.91. Thestrup was also fifth in the 3,000 meters, crossing the line in 9:32.08.

Allie Vogeler (56.52) finished fifth in the 400 meters. Her qualifying time of 55.88 in Friday's qualifying set a new Butler indoor record.

Kelly Mindak posted a time of 2:12.03 in the 800 meters Saturday, crossing the finish line in seventh.

Allison Sander and
Niki Ezeh each had a leap of 1.50m in the high jump. Sander finished eighth in the event; Ezeh was ninth. Ezeh finished third in Friday's pentathlon.

Carson Fields set a pair of Butler marks in Friday's qualifying with times of 7.80 in the 60 meters and 25.56 in the 200 meters.

The Bulldogs open the outdoor schedule March 17, hosting the Stan Lyons Invitational on the Butler campus.
