Friday Final Results
GENEVA, Ohio - After the third day of competition at the 2018 BIG EAST Swimming & Diving Championships presented by Jeep, the Butler swim team moved into fifth place by passing Providence with 161 points!
"We really stepped up as a team to earn several A and B Final performances in the Fly, Back, and Breaststroke events to pull past Providence after the third day," Head Coach
Maurice Stewart said Friday evening. "It's going to take a total team effort on the final day of the meet if we want to keep our lead, and beat Providence."
Annah Van Gheem nearly set a school record for BU on Friday in the 100 Fly. The freshman placed 11th overall and third in the B-Final with a time of 57.53. She now ranks second all-time at BU in the top ten list.
Fellow freshman
Emma Harris placed 16th overall in the 100 Fly and eighth in the B-Final with a time of 59.00. Her personal-best time of 58.38 came in the prelims. She now ranks third all-time at Butler.
Alexis Faith and
Megan Rush were also involved in the 100 Fly. Faith placed 17th with a time of 59.32 and Rush was right behind her in 18th at 59.87.
A new school record would drop in the 100 Breast with freshman
Emma Spotts placing her name in the record book. Spotts placed sixth in the A-Final with a time of 1:03.71.
Sydney Gurry also swam will in the event. She placed 12th overall and fourth in the B-Final with a time of 1:06.48. She now ranks fourth all-time on the BU top ten list.
Sophomore
Natalie Rohweder placed 14th overall in the 100 Break and sixth in the B-Final with a time of 1:08.48. She swam 1:08.20 in the prelims to place her name eighth in BU school history.
Carson Middlebrook was also in action for the Bulldogs. Her personal-best time of 1:08.40 places her ninth all-time at BU.
Grace Grzybek led BU in the 100 Back with a seventh place finish in the A-Final. She broke the BU school record with a time of 56.55.
Tori Horton placed 10th overall and second in the B-Final with a time of 57.47 in the 100 Back.
Sadie Texer and
Rachel Burke were also in action. Texer ended the day 16th overall and eighth in the B-Final (1:01.18) and Burke posted a personal-best time of 1:01.55.
Megan Hanson and
Harriet Davies swam in the 200 Free for Butler. Hanson placed 18th with a season-best time of 1:54.93. Davies came in at 21st with a personal-best time of 1:55.46.
Yet another school record would be established for Butler in the 400 Medley Relay. BU took fifth in the event with a time of 3:51.34. Grzybek led-off with a 58.24 split and Spotts was next in the pool for the breast (1:03.39). Van Gheem took the fly and swam a 57.71. Horton was the BU swimmer for the free. Her split came in at 52.00.
The final day of competition will begin at the pool at 10 a.m. for the prelims of the 200-yard backstroke, 100-yard freestyle, 200-yard breaststroke, 200-yard butterfly and men's three-meter diving. In the afternoon, the competition will begin a little earlier than the previous three days with the timed final first heat of the mile swim starting at 4 p.m. At 5:35 p.m., the BIG EAST will recognize its senior student-athletes with a short ceremony on the pool deck. Finals of the morning events and mile swim will begin at 6 p.m. The finals of the 400-freestule relay will close out the Championships.
