Butler picked up its third straight win with a 4-1 decision over nationally-ranked Division III team Gustavus Adolphus. The Sunday match was played in the Tennis Bubble on the Butler campus.
The Bulldogs took the top four singles courts to clinch the match. Freshman
Emily Neal and
Nina Bertino quickly took straight-set wins at No. 2 and No. 3 singles. Senior
Rachel Sutton, playing at the top spot, then won her match in three sets to give Butler a 3-1 lead.
Freshman
Lauren Marx won her match at No. 4 singles, 7-6 (3), 3-6, 6-1. That was Butler's fourth court to take the result.
Gustavus Adolphus took an early 1-0 lead by taking the doubles points with victories on courts 1 and 2.
The Bulldogs are now 6-8 on the season. Butler has already exceeded its win total from last spring.
Butler returns to action Friday (March 2) with a match against Oakland. That will be played in Akron, Ohio as the Bulldogs will also play Akron the next day.
