GENEVA, Ohio – The Bulldogs recorded 235 points at the 2018 BIG EAST Swimming and Diving Championship presented by Jeep to land in fifth place. 235 points is the highest total ever recorded for BU at the championship meet.
Olivia Allen set a new school record for Butler in the 1650 Free. Allen placed 11th with a time of 17:42.03. Junior Andy Bauer placed 14th (18:31.51) and
Madison Schluchterer placed 15th (18:49.98).
Sophomore
Grace Grzybek matched her school record time from 2017 in the 200 Back to placed seventh in the A-Final. She was under the weather all weekend, but posted a time of 2:02.13 in the event. Freshman
Megan Hanson placed seventh in the B-Final with a time of 2:06.39. She swam 2:05.37 in the prelims to place second all-time at BU on the top ten list.
Jacque Shrader-Goetz also moved into the BU top ten list with a time of 2:09.53. She placed 19th overall and moves to fifth all-time at Butler.
Carolyn McGrail set a new personal-best in the 200 Back with a time of 2:12.68.
Rachel Burke's season-best time came in this event at 2:13.31.
Sofia Camarillo and
Rachel Schafer also competed in the 200 Back. Each student-athlete set a new personal best time. Camarillo finished at 2:13.31 and Schafer was close behind at 2:14.98.
Tori Horton was the top performer for Butler in the 100 Free. Horton placed sixth in the B-Final with a time of 52.30. Her prelim time of 52.13 was a personal-best and moved her to second on the BU top ten list.
Harriet Davies placed 19th in the 100 Free with a time of 53.18 and freshman Abbie Linke touched the wall at 53.93 for 23rd place. Rounding out the effort was
Madison Himler who posted her best time of the season at 54.60.
The 200 Breast featured
Emma Spotts taking eighth place in the A-Final. Spotts clocked in at 2:23.60 after swimming a 2:22.42 in the prelims. Sophomore
Natalie Rohweder placed sixth for Butler in the B-Final with a time of 2:27.45 and
Sydney Gurry was close behind in eighth (2:28.64).
Multiple Bulldogs placed their name in the all-time top ten list in the 200 Fly.
Annah Van Gheem placed sixth in the B-Final with a time of 2:08.84.
Olivia Allen placed 17th (2:10.26), Shrader-Goetz placed 19th (2:11.30),
Emma Harris placed 20th (2:11.35),
Emily Motill placed 21st (2:15.44), and
Madison Schluchterer earned 22nd (2:19.42).
Butler's 400 Free Relay team placed fifth at the championship meet by posting the third-best time in BU school history. Davies, Van Gheem, Hanson and Horton helped Butler edge Providence with a time of 3:31.47. Davies led-off with a 53.09 split and Van Gheem hit the pool for a 53.72 split. Hanson swam 53.20 and Horton anchored the team with a solid effort at 51.46.
