The Bulldogs picked up their first win of the spring, knocking off Valparaiso, 5-2, Saturday afternoon at the Butler Tennis Bubble in Indianapolis.
Butler took the No. 1 and No. 3Â doubles matches to take the doubles point; the No. 2 doubles match was unfinished with the Bulldogs leading 5-3.
Senior
Bailey Padgett won both of her matches, defeating Claire Czerwonka in three sets at the No. 1 singles spot. Earlier in the day, she teamed with classmate
Jordan Minnick for a 6-3 win at No. 1 doubles.
Freshman
Emily Neal also posted a 2-0 day. She went three sets in beating Meg Modesto at the No. 3 singles position. She and freshman
Lauren Marx also won, 6-0, at No. 3 doubles.
Nina Bertino and
Carla O'Byrne won at the No. 5 and No. 6 singles spots, respectively. Bertino won 6-0, 6-1 over Jordan Kopfer, while O'Byrne used a second-set tiebreaker to take down Randi Wind.
The Bulldogs are now 1-4 on the spring. The visiting Crusaders fall to 2-2.
Butler has a quick turnaround as the team hosts Cleveland State Sunday at Noon.
