Seven Bulldogs travel to Seattle, Wash. to compete in the Husky Classic this weekend. The meet, beginning Friday, will take place at the Dempsey Indoor Center.
Kelly Mindak, coming off a school record-setting time of 1:34.56 in the 600 meters at the Meyo Invitational last weekend, will compete in the 800 meter run at the Husky Classic. The freshman also posted a college-best time of 2:13.50 in the 800 meters at the Meyo Invitational.
Sophomore
Josephine Thestrup will take on the mile run after posting a college-best time of 4:48.56 at the Meyo Invitational. Her time is good for fifth in the BIG EAST this season and is fifth-fastest in Butler history. She will run in section four of the event.Â
On the men's side,
Evan Johnson,
Bobby Johnson, and
Daniel Garcia will compete in the 3,000 meters.
Garcia is coming off a standout performance at the Meyo Invitational, running the mile in 4:03.82, which ranks sixth in Butler history and is the best mark in the BIG EAST this indoor season. Garcia's college-best time in the 3,000 meters came at the Gladstein Invitational this year, where he posted a time of 8:08.11.
Senior
Bobby Johnson's best time in the 3,000 clocks in at 8:08.27, which he ran at last year's Husky Classic. He was fourth in both the 3,000 and 5,000 meters at the 2017 BIG EAST Indoor Championships.Â
Â
Evan Johnson, a sophomore, posted his fastest time in the 3,000 meters at the 2017 Meyo Invitational (8:25.41). He also won his section of the mile in the event with a lifetime-best of 4:09.49.Â
For the first time in his college career, freshman
Barry Keane will run the 5,000 meters. Keane is coming off a fourth-place finish in the 3,000 meters at the Meyo Invitational with a time of 8:04.50. His time currently ranks third among true freshmen in the NCAA this season.
Keane is the lone NCAA freshman in the men's invitational 5,000 meters. The elite field includes both top collegians and professional runners. In 2017, seven of the 16 NCAA Indoor qualifiers came from this race. That field included Butler great Erik Peterson and his school-record effort of 13:40.90. Peterson was third in the race.
Keane is no stranger to being a youngster in an elite field. He was also the youngest man in this summer's European U23 Championships 5,000 meter final where he placed 12th for his native Ireland.Â
Jonathan Collier will also run the 5,000 meters for the Bulldogs. The senior's fastest time in the 5,000 meters clocks in at 14:24.14. Collier was fifth in the 5,000 at the 2017 BIG EAST Outdoor Championships.Â
