Butler fell, 4-3, to Southern Mississippi Thursday night in Florida. The match was played at the USTA National Center.
The Bulldogs are now 9-4 on the season with one match remaining in Florida during the team's annual Spring Break trip.
Butler opened the match by taking the doubles point behind wins on courts one and three.
Five of the singles matches were decided in straight sets with three going to Southern Miss and two going to the Bulldogs as
Aviv Ben Shabat and
Adrian Mag won for Butler at No. 4 and No. 5 singles, respectively.
That made the match 3-3 with only the No. 2 singles match remaining.
Spencer Lang took the first set, 6-2, before Chung Han Tsai won the second set 6-4. Tsai was able to fend off four match points by Lang and then capture the court and the match in a tiebreaker.
Butler and Quinnipiac will play Friday at 4:45 p.m.
