Butler opened the outdoor portion of the 2018 track and field schedule by hosting the Stan Lyons Invitational Saturday.
The event is named for Lyons, the coach of Butler's track and cross country teams for 30 seasons, prior to retiring in 1995. He guided Butler to eight conference track and field championships and five league cross country crowns.
The event utilized dual meet scoring. In men's events, Butler won results against Loyola (Ill.), Dayton, Indiana, Northern Kentucky, Wright State, Xavier, and Evansville. The Bulldogs won every head-to-head match-up.
In women's scoring, Butler won dual meets against IUPUI, Loyola (Ill.), Northern Kentucky, Indiana, Evansville, and Dayton. Only Wright State, Xavier and Ball State won match-ups with Butler.
On the men's side, the Bulldogs won the 4x100 meter relay as
Jake Kellersohn,
Tim Vestuto,
Colton Haymon, and
Richard Clark combined for a time of 43.27.
Kellersohn and Vestuto went 1-2 in the 100 meters, posting times of 11.35 and 11.37, respectively.
Graham Stecz won the 400 meters, running a time of 49.71. Stecz was second in the 200 meters, while Vestuto finished third.
Kyle Harris placed third in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:03.16.
Richard Clark was third in the 110-meter hurdles in a time of 16.34.

Jake Bowers, Conner Fuller, and
Jacob Uhl won the 4x400 meter relay, edging Xavier at the line by .28 of a second. The Bulldogs crossed the line in a time of 3:24.68.
Butler also took the top three spots in the javelin, headlined by
Wade Walder and his throw of 51.68 meters.
Matt Fisch and
Richard Clark also made the top three.
Michael Carey's time of 8:46.03 in the 3,000 meters was good for second.
Luke Russell was third in the long jump at 6.24 meters.
In women's action,
Carson Fields was second in the 100 meters at 12.63.
The Bulldogs are back in action Friday at the Black and Gold Invitational in Nashville, Tenn. Vanderbilt is the host of the event.
