Butler dropped a narrow 4-3 decision to Oakland Friday afternoon in a match played in Akron, Ohio. The Bulldogs took the doubles point and the top two singles courts, but Oakland was able to pull out four singles matches for the win.
Bailey Padgett and
Rachel Sutton each won their singles matches in three sets. Padgett was able to fight off two match points in her 4-6, 6-2, 7-5 win at No. 1 singles.
Padgett and
Jordan Minnick combined for a win at No. 1 doubles while Sutton joined
Emily Neal at No. 2 doubles for a victory that clinched the doubles point and an early 1-0 lead for the Bulldogs.
Butler had a match point in the No. 4 singles match, but Oakland's Amanda Nilsson responded to win, 6-3, 4-6, 7-5.
Butler is now 6-9 on the season.
The Bulldogs return to action Saturday with a match against Akron.
