INDIANAPOLIS – The Bulldogs took a 9-2 loss to Valparaiso on Friday afternoon to move their overall record to 16-4. The Crusaders scored six runs in the third to take a commanding lead. Each squad would score two runs in the eighth and the final run would come across home plate in the ninth for the visitors.
Jon Tieman was a force on the mound for Valpo. The sophomore tossed 7.1 innings of action and limited BU to two runs off seven hits. He struck out four and only walked one.
TIeman threw against BU ace
Connor Mitchell. The 6-4 lefty exited the game after five full innings. He struck out five and did not allow a walk.
The six-run third inning came off five hits, however three BU errors helped extend the frame. Each Valpo hit was a single and all but one of the runs went down unearned.
Valpo extended their lead to 8-0 in the eighth, but the Bulldogs would counter with two runs of their own.
Gehrig Parker doubled down the right field line to score
Zach Jarosz and
Tyler Houston. Parker went 2-for-4 on the day. The only other Bulldog to record two hits on the day was
Michael Hartnagel.
Butler and Valpo will not play tomorrow (Saturday, 3/24) due to winter weather conditions in the Indianapolis area. The two teams will try to play a doubleheader Sunday beginning at noon.
