The Butler track and field team continues competition Friday with a portion of the roster traveling to the Raleigh Relays hosted by North Carolina State. Athletes will also compete at the Oliver Nikoloff Invitational hosted by Cincinnati.
The Bulldogs are coming off an impressive weekend at the Vanderbilt Black & Gold Invitational where
Johnny Leverenz clocked two lifetime bests, including the top 1,500 meter time in the NCAA (3:43.61). Leverenz was more than two seconds faster than Jack Anstey of Illinois State, who was second in the event.
The junior also finished first in the 800 meters, with a time of 1:49.11. That time is good for the current No. 2 spot in the NCAA. At the Raleigh Relays, Leverenz will represent the Bulldogs in the 800 meters.
Wade Walder will compete in the 110-meter hurdles and the javelin at the Raleigh Relays. With a time of 15.49, Walder set a new lifetime-best in the 110-meter hurdles at the Black & Gold Invitational. Walder also won the javelin with a throw of 51.18 meters (167 feet, 11.25 inches).
Bobby Johnson,
Matt Lumbar, and
Jonathan Collier will go the distance, taking on the men's 10k. Three Bulldogs will also take on the 400 meters with
Jake Bowers,
Jake Kellersohn, and
Jacob Uhl.
On the women's side,
Josephine Thestrup will compete in the women's 5k at the Raleigh Relays. She finished fourth in the 1,500 meters at Vanderbilt, crossing the line in 4:32.19.
Camille Hines will represent the Bulldogs in the 1,500 meters.
Allie Vogeler looks to break her own school record in the 400-meter hurdles for the second-straight weekend. The junior won the event at Vanderbilt in a time of 1:00.08, breaking the record she previously set.
