The Bulldogs concluded weekend play in Nashville, Tenn., Sunday, dropping games to Northern Iowa and Belmont. Butler finished the Bruins Classic with a record of 2-3 over the weekend.
Freshman
Alyssa Graves went the distance for the Bulldogs in Sunday's opener against Northern Iowa, logging 9.1 innings as the Panthers won, 3-2, in 10 innings.
Graves allowed only one earned run and six hits, but took the hard-luck loss.
Butler got on the board first in the third inning.
Jenna Foreman reached on a UNI error and scored on a two-out double by
Alyssa Lach. The Bulldogs' 1-0 lead would carry to the bottom of the seventh when the Panthers would get an RBI double from pitcher Jaclin Spencer.
With games scheduled later in the day, the tournament format placed a runner on second in the extra innings. Neither team scored in the eighth, but each team pushed across one run in the ninth. Butler's run came on a two-out RBI single by
Kaitlin Doud.
In the bottom of the tenth, UNI got a bases-loaded walk to take the win.
Spencer allowed the Bulldogs only three hits in her 10 innings of work.
In Sunday's second game, the Bulldogs fell, 7-0, to host Belmont. The Bruins broke through in the bottom of the fourth, putting two runs on the board. They followed that with four runs in the fifth.
Foreman had two of the team's five hits; she added her ninth stolen base of the season.
Gabbi Schnaiter got the start for Butler and went 4.1 innings. She allowed four earned runs.
Ambry Turpen came on in relief, allowing one earned run in 1.2 innings of work.
Brooklin Lee pitched the shutout for Belmont, striking out seven.
Butler is now 4-10 on the season.
The Bulldogs return to action next weekend with four games in Memphis, Tenn. Play begins with a Friday game against Indiana State.
