NEW YORK – With all eight teams in BIG EAST action last week, Butler's
Kaitlin Doud and DePaul's Angela Scalzitti garnered BIG EAST Softball Pitcher and Player of the Week, respectively.

Getting the call with three Pirates already on base in the top of the first, Doud closed out the inning with the Bulldogs trailing 4-0. In the bottom of the first, Doud walked up to the plate with the Bulldogs down 4-1 and two teammates on base. The junior knocked a triple to the right side, scoring
Alyssa Lach and
Madi Christiansen to place two more runs on the board.
Christina Candotti then doubled to score Doud and bring the game to four runs each. The pitcher closed out the remainder of the game, allowing six hits and two earned runs, while offensively batting .667, with two hits, four RBI, two triples and a run as Butler won the opening game 8-5. Looking for the series sweep, Doud entered the circle in the top of the second inning with Butler trailing 1-0. The junior allowed zero runs over the final 5.2 innings pitched, but Butler was unable to get anything going offensively. Doud ended the weekend 1-0 with a 1.0 ERA, three strikeouts and zero extra base hits allowed.
BIG EAST Player of the Week
Angela Scalzitti, DePaul, So., CF
Scalzitti carried the Blue Demons to a 3-0 record and second consecutive undefeated weekend in BIG EAST play, tallying three doubles and providing six runs over the two-day series. In the first of three run-rule victories, the sophomore provided two doubles, three RBI, one run and two hits with three at bats. In the second game of Friday's double header,
Scalzitti was a perfect 2-of-2 from the plate adding three more RBI and a run to her resume. In Saturday's contest, she was walked twice, reaching home plate twice. Overall, center fielder registered a .667 batting average, collected six RBI, four runs, three doubles and a 1.167 slugging percentage.
