@ButlerUGolf's Cascino T-Fifth After First Round of BIG EAST Championship

Butler's Michael Cascino is tied for fifth after the first 18 holes of the 2018 BIG EAST Men's Golf Championship. As a team, Butler is sixth on a crowded leaderboard.

The Championship is being played at Callawassie Island, S.C., and includes upcoming rounds on both Monday and Tuesday at the par-72, 6,993-yard course.

Cascino had 15 pars on the afternoon, the most among the field Sunday. He carded a one-over 73. He birdied the second hole and made the turn at one-under 35. The only blemishes in his round were bogeys on the par-3 12th and the 388-yard 16th.

Sophomores Patrick Allgeier and Logan Sabins shot 75 and 79, respectively, Sunday. Allgeier is tied for 14th, while Sabins is tied for 25th. Michael Denner (85) and Ricky Kuiper (94) rounded out the Bulldogs' five. As a team, Butler carded a 312 Sunday.

Sabins played the par 5s at two-under. Allgeier's card included four birdies.

Georgetown (289, +1) leads Marquette (290) by a single stroke. The middle of the leaderboard is congested with Villanova and DePaul tied for third at 309, followed by Seton Hall in fifth (310) and Butler in sixth (312). That puts Butler just three strokes out of third. The Bulldogs lead Xavier (313) by a single stroke and St. John's (314) by two shots. Creighton rounds out the nine-team field at 321.

Georgetown's Cole Berman and Marquette's Hunter Eichhorn each shot a three-under 69 to tie for the first-round lead. They each have a teammate one stroke behind, followed by Cascino and Xavier's Garrett Wood at one-over 73.

The second round of the BIG EAST Championship begins Monday at 8 a.m. ET.  The BIG EAST team winner earns an automatic bid to the NCAA Championship.  Should the individual champion not be a member of the championship team, he will also earn a spot in the NCAA Championship field as an individual.
