The Butler softball team continues competition this week, hosting Evansville Thursday and BIG EAST foe Creighton Saturday and Sunday. The Bulldogs are coming off a 2-1 weekend against Seton Hall to open BIG EAST play.
Junior
Kaitlin Doud had a big weekend for the Bulldogs in the circle and at the plate. Over the course of three games, she had three hits, including two triples, with four RBI. The junior ended the weekend with a .400 on base percentage and a .778 slugging percentage. She also scored two runs. Doud currently leads the team in triples (4), RBI (15), homeruns (3), and slugging percentage (.488).
Doud made two appearances in the circle against Seton Hall, receiving the 8-5 win in game one. Doud came on in relief during the first inning and pitched the remaining 7.0 innings, giving up six hits and only two earned runs. The junior also came on in relief in the Game Three 1-0 loss. She threw 5.2 scoreless innings and only gave up two hits. Doud ended the weekend 1-0 with a 1.11 ERA.
Jenna Foreman has started all 28 games for the Bulldogs and is leading the team in batting average, hitting .415. Her batting average is third in the BIG EAST as well as her 39 hits. Â On the bases, Foreman leads the BIG EAST in stolen bases, succeeding in 24 of her 27 attempts, including four against Seton Hall. She has scored a team-high 15 runs.
Another base running threat for Butler is
Alyssa Garcia. The sophomore has seven stolen bases on nine attempts this season. She is also tied for the team-lead in walks with seven.
Alyssa Lach came through for the Bulldogs in the Game One 8-5 win over Seton Hall. The senior went 2-for-2 with a walk and two RBI. Lach also had a hit in games two and three of the series.
Freshman
Alyssa Graves remains steady on the rubber for Butler. She currently holds the second lowest ERA in the BIG EAST with a 1.76 and is sixth in strikeouts with 68. Graves has appeared in 16 games and thrown two shutouts and one save.
Gabbi Schnaiter came on in relief in the Game Two 6-0 win over Seton Hall, blanking the Pirates while striking out one. She has made 10 appearances this season with 13 strikeouts.
The Purple Aces (11-19, 4-4 MVC) are coming off a 7-1 win over Loyola Chicago on Saturday. Evansville took the series 2-1 over the Ramblers.
Creighton (13-11, 2-1 BIG EAST) opened BIG EAST play last weekend, hosting Providence. The Bluejays took the series 2-1. They will host South Dakota before traveling to Indianapolis to face the Bulldogs on Saturday.
