The Butler softball team has a busy week, taking on the Indiana Hoosiers in a doubleheader at Bloomington on Tuesday, followed by a trip to Washington, D.C this weekend to battle the Georgetown Hoyas in another BIG EAST series.
The Bulldogs are coming off a 1-2 weekend against Creighton, moving their record to 12-19 overall and 3-3 in the BIG EAST. The first two games of the series went to Creighton 8-3 and 5-3, respectively. The Bulldogs rallied to post a 2-0 win over the Bluejays in the series finale.
Kaitlin Doud had a big series for the Bulldogs, finishing the weekend 3-for-10 with one double, one triple, and three RBI. In the game three, 2-0 win over Creighton, Doud had a game-winning double, scoring
Jenna Foreman and
Alyssa Garcia. She also received the win in the circle, pitching 4.2 scoreless innings after coming on in relief. Doud gave up only three hits while striking out three.
The junior currently leads the team in doubles (5), triples (5), homeruns (3), RBI (18), and slugging percentage (.500). Doud has reached base safely in the last six games.
Foreman stole her conference-leading 26
th base of the season against Creighton. She leads the team in batting average (.388), which sits third in the BIG EAST, and hits (40), which is good for fourth in the BIG EAST. The junior has also reached base in 10 straight games.
Butler leads the conference in stolen bases with 39. Garcia adds seven stolen bases to the Bulldogs' total,
Maddie Moore adds three, and Doud,
Sammy Andersen, and
Claire Gilliland each add one. Garcia is hitting .256 this season with a .333 on base percentage. The left hander also leads the team in walks with nine.
Alyssa Lach remains steady at the plate for Butler, hitting .258 with 23 hits. The senior has four doubles, one homerun, and 15 RBI. She is also third on the team in slugging percentage (.337). Catcher
Cheyenne Thompson is the third Bulldog with a homerun this season, hitting a solo shot in game one against Creighton.
Freshman
Alyssa Graves (5-8) has been solid for the Bulldogs in the circle. Her 1.70 ERA leads the BIG EAST and her 75 strikeouts sits at seventh in the conference. She has allowed only 21 earned runs in her 86.1 innings of work.
Doud has come on in relief in 11 games so far this season, posting a 6-4 record. She has a 3.09 ERA and struck out 27 batters in her 68.0 innings pitched. She has given up 30 earned runs and 85 hits.
Gabbi Schnaiter (1-6) has also seen time in the circle for the Bulldogs. She has thrown 40.0 innings and posted a 7.18 ERA. Schnaiter has 13 strikeouts and given up 41 earned runs.
The Indiana Hoosiers (14-23) are 7-4 this season at home, including a series sweep of BIG TEN opponent No. 18 Ohio State. The Hoosiers are coming off a home BIG TEN series against Nebraska, posting a 1-2 record against the Cornhuskers. The doubleheader against Indiana is slated for a 5:00 p.m. start.
Georgetown (11-25) is 3-5 in the BIG EAST after three conference series. The Hoyas were 0-2 against Providence, 1-2 against St. John's, and 2-1 against conference leader DePaul this past weekend. The series against the Hoyas begins with a doubleheader Saturday at Noon, followed by a single game on Sunday. First pitch is set for 11:00 a.m.
