Butler sophomore
Patrick Allgeier posted a top 10 performance and the Bulldogs placed fifth at the 2018 BIG EAST Men's Golf Championship.
The 54-hole Championship was played at Callawassie Island, S.C., on the par-72, 6,993-yard course.
Allgeier finished at four-over 220 for the tournament. He shot a five-over 77 in Tuesday's final round and finished tied for sixth among the 40-player field. Allgeier's four-under 68 Monday moved him into the thick of the individual chase, just one shot off the lead with only Tuesday's 18 holes remaining.
Logan Sabins had the strongest round of the day for the Bulldogs, using five birdies Tuesday to card a one-under 71. He finished at 227 (+11) for the championship, good for 15
th overall.
The Bulldogs held steady in fifth place after entering Tuesday's final round in that position. Butler's team score of 301 was one shot off Monday's performance and put the Bulldogs at 913 (+49) for the tournament.
Marquette and Georgetown were neck-and-neck for much of Tuesday's round with Georgetown pulling out the team title by three strokes. The Hoyas entered the round with a three-shot advantage and that was the final margin as both teams shot 291 Tuesday. Georgetown finished at 884 (+20), followed by Marquette (887, +23), DePaul (900, +36), and Seton Hall (902, +38). Â
Marquette's Hunter Eichhorn won the BIG EAST title with a 54-hole score of two-under 214. He shot an even-par 72 Tuesday to hold off teammate Matt Murlick and Seton Hall's Chris Yeom, who each carded even-par 216s.
Butler finished ahead of sixth-place Xavier by 12 strokes. Villanova, St. John's and Creighton rounded out the nine-team field.
Michael Cascino finished the 54 holes at 12-over 228. He shot a two-over 74 on Tuesday and finished in a tie for 16th place.
Michael Denner shot 79 (+7) Tuesday and finished in a tie for 31st place with his score of 238 (+22).
Ricky Kuiper shot 86 Tuesday and finished the tournament at 265.
This is the final competition of the season for the Bulldogs, who will return their BIG EAST line-up in 2018-19.
