Head coach Parker Ross announced the new additions to the Butler Men's Tennis roster on Monday (May 14). The 2018 class includes four standouts: Ryan Roegner, Drew Michael, Preston Cameron, and Griffin Beck.
"I am extremely excited about the addition of this strong recruiting class" said Ross. "Not only are they talented players and excellent students, but they also possess the high character and leadership qualities we look for in student-athletes here at Butler. I am confident they will add value from the very first day and make our championship-caliber team even stronger."
Ryan Roegner, Naperville, Ill. / Naperville Central High School
A four-year starter varsity starter on Naperville Central and a four-star recruit according to tennisrecruiting.net, Roegner helped lead his team to an Illinois State Championship in 2017 where he finished third in singles play. He was named to the All-Conference and All-State team all four years of his high school career, as well as earning Academic All-Conference four straight years.
Roegner on choosing Butler: "Overall, I felt very welcome at Butler and knew that there would be a lot of great opportunities on and off the court for me."
Drew Michael, Carmel, Ind. / Carmel High School
Michael, another four-star recruit, helped lead his team to a 60-4 overall record and two state championships during his three years on the Carmel varsity team. He was named All-Conference and a scholar athlete during his career, while also going undefeated in No. 2 doubles.
Michael on choosing Butler: "It is a great school, I loved the team, and I felt at home."
Preston Cameron, Louisville, Ky. / Saint Xavier High School
A four-year varsity starter, Cameron posted a 52-9 singles record and a 63-7 doubles record during his high school career. He helped lead his team to four straight state titles, while also earning All-State recognition every year of his career. Cameron was named a team captain his senior year and tabbed the 2016 Tennis Scholar Athlete of the Year.
Cameron on choosing Butler: "I chose Butler to be involved in an incredible Division I tennis program while broadening my knowledge through Butler's academics."
Griffin Beck, Indianapolis, Ind. / North Central High School
As a member of North Central's varsity team, Beck finished his high school career with an overall record of 56-11, including a 20-3 record as a senior. He was named team captain his senior year and earned First Team All-State honors. Beck helped lead his team to a 78-7 overall record, two state championships, and three conference championships.
Beck on choosing Butler: "I loved the guys on the team and the chemistry they have between them, I wanted to be a part of that. Plus, the amount of time with professors outside of class to enhance my learning was a key for me."
