#12 St. John’s Knocks Off @ButlerUBaseball 4-2

INDIANAPOLIS – Butler grabbed an early 2-0 lead on Thursday afternoon, but the #12 St. John's Red Storm would take a 4-2 win on their home diamond to clinch the regular season BIG EAST title. Butler's conference record moves to 8-7 with the setback.

Gehrig Parker gave BU a 1-0 lead with a solo home run to right in the top of the first inning. That BU lead would double in the second after an RBI single from freshman James Gargano.

The 2-0 advantage would vanish in the bottom half of the second after a two-run home run from Anthony Brocato.

The only other runs of the ball game would touch home plate in the bottom of the third. Stampfl doubled with two out and two on to record two RBI. Valente and Galazin scored the game-winning runs.

Johnnie ace Sean Mooney recorded his 10th win of the season after tossing seven full innings of action. He struck out six and only walked one. The loss would fall to Connor Mitchell (3-4). Kelly and Hollowell would also see time on the mound for St. John's. Hollowell marked his fourth save of the season.

Mitchell struck out four over 2.2 innings. He was replaced by Sam Hubbe who went the rest of the way (5.1). Hubbe ended the game with three K's and limited the powerful St. John's order to just three hits.

Due to a wet forecast in the New York City area, Butler and St. John's will play a doubleheader tomorrow with a 12 PM start. Game two will still air at 4PM on the CBS Sports Network as scheduled.
