In the final tune-up prior to the 2018 BIG EAST Championships, the Bulldogs posted a strong team performance at Friday's Billy Hayes Invitational on the Indiana University campus.
The Bulldogs' quartet of
Graham Stecz,
Jake Kellersohn,
Jacob Uhl, and
Jake Bowers broke the Butler school record in the 4x400 relay, posting a time of 3:13.50. Uhl and Stecz went 3-5 in the 400 meters in 49.90 and 49.98.
Butler's 4x100 relay team of Kellersohn,
Richard Clark,
Andrew Shroyer, and
Tim Vestuto ran a time of 42.26 for a new season-best.
Continuing a tremendous spring,
Johnny Leverenz raced to a win in the 800 meters, hitting the finish line in 1:49.10. In the first section of the event,
Chandler McGaha picked up the win with a time of 1:54.56.
Freshman
Clark Otte crossed the line in second place in the steeplechase in a time of 9:12.92. It was a new personal-best.
In the 1,500 meters,
Daniel Garcia ran a blistering time of 3:46.17. In the same event,
Bobby Johnson registered a lifetime-best 3:50.83.
In women's action, the 4x100 relay team broke the school record in 48.14. The four runners combining on the new mark were
Lizzie Rupkey,
Lily Hess,
Elaine Warner, and
Carson Fields.
Allie Vogeler picked up the win in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 59.73. Sophomore
Josephine Thestrup finished second in the 1,500 meters, registering a time of 4:26.27.
Freshman
Kelly Mindak posted the third-fastest time in Butler history in the 800 meters (2:10.35). Her lifetime-best was good for fourth in the event.
Maddie Miller placed second in the second section of the 400 meters with a lifetime-best time of 59.54.
The Bulldogs return to action next weekend at the BIG EAST Outdoor Track and Field Championships. The competition on Friday and Saturday is slated for Geneva, Ohio.
