Garrett Christman signed a free agent deal with the San Francisco Giants on Thursday night. The former Bulldog will continue his baseball career as a right-handed pitcher.
Christman was a two-way player for the Bulldogs that lined up primarily at third base when he was not on the mound. At the plate in 2018, Christman posted a team-high 48 RBIs while finishing third on the club with a .310 batting average. 10 of his 61 hits on the year went for extra bases as the senior tallied seven doubles, two triples and a homer. He scored 27 runs and posted 75 total bases.
On the mound, Christman picked up four wins over 13 starts. He held onto a 3.47 ERA and posted 48 strikeouts in 72 innings of work.
Top performances for Christman on the hill included a season-high seven strikeout game in his debut at UNCW. The right-hander ended the season on a high-note as well by striking out 14 batters over his last three starts while only issuing one walk.
At the dish, Christman got off to a hot start to his senior campaign. He went 4-for-4 in the season-opener with three RBI, two runs scored and a double. He posted three RBI two more times in the month of February while adding his lone home run of the year vs. George Mason.
The left-handed batter came up with a season-high four RBI in the victory over Xavier on May 5. He ended his senior season with 15 multi-RBI games and 15 multi-hit games.
