INDIANAPOLIS - A league-best 116 Butler student-athletes were on the list when the Horizon League announced is 2010 spring academic honor roll. The BU men's soccer team led the way with 16 honor roll members.
The league's spring list includes 729 different student-athletes from the 10 member institutions. A sport-by-sport breakdown includes 90 student-athletes competing in women’s track and field/cross country along with 86 in women’s soccer and 74 from men’s track and field/cross country. Other top sports include men’s soccer (73), women’s swimming and diving (59) and volleyball (55).
Butler, which was also the 2009-10 McCafferty All-Sports Trophy winner, also placed 13 men's track/cross country and 13 women's soccer student-athletes on the list. Other Bulldog teams well-represented include: women's track/cross country (11), softball (10), baseball (9) and men's tennis (8).
Candidates for the Horizon League Academic Honor Roll must meet three criteria in order to qualify: 1) participation in at least one of the League’s 19 sports during the most recent (or current) season; 2) completion of three semesters (or four quarters, where applicable) as a full-time student at the same member institution; and 3) a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.20 (on a 4.00 scale).
