Six former student-athletes, including one former coach, have been selected for induction into the Butler University Athletic Hall of Fame. The 2014 Hall of Fame class will be formally inducted at a dinner/ceremony on the Butler campus this fall.

Butler Student-Athletes Earn Academic Recognition
With grade reports from the fall 2013 semester announced, Butler is proud to recognize and congratulate the 209 student-athletes who qualified for the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll with a GPA over 3.25. Twenty-six student-athletes achieved a perfect 4.0 GPA, and the Athletic Department posted an overall GPA of 3.29.

Butler University Live Bulldog Mascot Blue II Dies
Blue II, the male English bulldog who served as Butler University’s live mascot from 2004-2013, died on Saturday, Aug. 31, due to complications from congestive heart failure. He was 9 years old.

Kit Stetzel, who spent the past year as assistant director of athletic media services at IPFW, has been named assistant sports information director at Butler University. Mark Minner Named To Butler Broadcast Position
Mark Minner, a 2012 Butler graduate, has been selected as the radio play-by-play announcer for Butler Men’s Basketball. Minner, who has served as a Halftime, Post-Game, and Studio Host for the Butler Basketball Radio Network for the past three years, succeeds Brandon Gaudin, the new Georgia Tech football and men’s basketball play-by-play voice.

Brandon Gaudin Headed To Georgia Tech
Butler play-by-play announcer Brandon Gaudin has accepted a broadcast position at Georgia Tech. In his new position, Gaudin will handle the Yellow Jackets’ play-by-play duties for football and men’s basketball, host weekly radio coaches’ shows for football and men’s basketball and serve as host of Georgia Tech’s television productions.

Val Ackerman Named BIG EAST Commissioner
The Big East today announced the appointment of Val Ackerman, a pioneer with nearly 25 years of experience as a high-level sports executive and a passionate advocate for the values of amateur athletics, to serve as the first Commissioner of the newly reconstituted, 10-team Big East Conference. The Big East, which will be headquartered in New York City, will officially commence operations on July 1, 2013.

Butler graduate Ed Carpenter put on an impressive four-lap performance and then watched as others tried to challenge his position at the top of the speed chart on Saturday (May 18) at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. When the day ended, the 32-year-old Carpenter owned the pole position for this year’s Indianapolis 500.

The Butler University Athletic Department and PNC Bank today announced a three-year agreement naming PNC Bank as the official bank sponsor of Butler University Athletics. In addition, Butler Men’s Basketball Coach Brad Stevens will continue in his role as a brand ambassador for the bank’s local community initiatives. The Atlantic 10 Conference has secured eight-year partnerships with ESPN, CBS Sports Network and NBC Sports Group for its media and television rights. The agreements, which were announced Tuesday, more than double the men’s and women’s basketball national exposure for the A-10 membership and will begin in 2013-14.

Matt Howard, Michele Nash Tabbed Butler’s Top Athletes
Matt Howard, who ended his collegiate career in the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball championship game, and Michele Nash, who helped the Bulldogs to their first NCAA Division I Women’s Golf Championship berth, have been named recipients of Butler’s Most Outstanding Athlete Award for 2010-11. Shelvin Mack To Remain In NBA Draft

A league-best 116 Butler student-athletes were on the list when the Horizon League announced is 2010 spring academic honor roll. The BU men's soccer team led the way with 16 honor roll members.

Golfest Caps Off Historic Year in Butler Athletics
Two hundred fifty-six players and 58 sponsors took part in Butler University's annual golf outing that supports Bulldog Athletics Monday, June 7 at Pebble Brook Golf Club in Noblesville, Ind.

Butler Captures James J. McCafferty Trophy
Butler, fueled by three conference titles and two regular season championships, claimed the 2010 James J. McCafferty Trophy as the Horizon League’s all-sports champion for a record-tying seventh time and first since 2006-07. The Bulldogs became the third program in league history to earn the all-sports award seven times!

The 2010 Bookin’ with the Bulldogs reading program was designed to give Butler Athletic Department staff members and student-athletes a chance to develop their leadership skills while giving back to their community. During the 2010 spring semester several reading teams visited local elementary schools to read to students and answer questions about a variety of topics.

Construction has begun on a major renovation at the Butler Bowl that will include building a brick press box with multi-use booths and new seating on the west and east sides of the playing surface.

Butler's Jim McGrath Honored By Indiana Sportswriters And Sportscasters
Butler University Associate Director of Athletics Jim McGrath was honored by the Indiana Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association Saturday night. McGrath was the recipient of the Bob Williams Helping Hand Award for his service to the media in the state of Indiana.

108 Bulldogs Named To Horizon League Fall Honor Roll
Following a fall season that saw the men’s soccer, football and both cross country teams win championships, Butler posted a league-best 108 student-athletes on the Horizon League Fall Academic Honor Roll.

Eleven Bulldogs Earn Academic All-Horizon League Honors
Eleven Butler student-athletes from the fall sports were named Academic All-Horizon League for exceptional performance on the field and in the classroom. Butler had the most academic all-league performers, accounting for 22 percent of the league’s 50 honored student-athletes. The awards are a result of a balloting by the league’s faculty athletic representatives and sports information directors.

Butler Opens Spirit Shop In Hinkle Fieldhouse
Butler University and the Athletic Department are pleased to announce the opening of the newly-constructed Spirit Shop in Hinkle Fieldhouse. The store will be open during Saturday’s men’s basketball game between Butler and Ohio State, both of which are in this week’s AP and ESPN/USA Today Top 25 national rankings.

Thirteen Butler Student-Athletes Named To Academic All-League Teams
A total of 13 Butler student-athletes from seven different sports earned recognition from the Horizon League as members of the 2009 Spring Academic All-League Teams. The league office made the announcement on Wednesday (July 15). The 13 Bulldog award winners were the second-most from any league school, trailing Youngstown State by just one recipient.

Golfest A Success As Rain Clouds Disappear
Golfest – Butler University’s annual golf outing that supports Bulldog Athletics – was held on Monday, June 8 at Pebble Brook Golf Club in Noblesville, Ind. The event proved successful again in 2009, with 218 participants and more than 50 sponsors supporting the event.

Butler Basketball Season Tickets On Sale
Season tickets for the 2009-10 Butler men’s basketball campaign are now on sale. The Bulldogs, who return the entire team from last year’s 26-6 club which advanced to the NCAA Tournament, will have 15 home games this season, including contests against Ohio State, Xavier, Davidson and a BracketBusters contest.

Six former student-athletes, including a two-time All-American and three athletes who were named conference Player of the Year, were formerly inducted into the Butler University Athletic Hall of Fame on Sunday, June 7. Softball, Soccer Players Spark Kids' Interest in Books
It might have looked like a huddle, but reading a story and having fun was the game plan, when outfielder Jenny Jacobs of Indianapolis gathered her "team" of youngsters around her during the Jan. 12 Readers' Day in Hinkle Fieldhouse. A senior member of Butler's softball team, Jacobs read the children's book Click, Clack Moo during a family literacy fair, staged before the Butler men's basketball game against Milwaukee.

Food Drive Set for Saturday
The NCAA Division I Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) will work with Butler’s SAAC this weekend to support Gleaners Food Bank of Indiana by providing a food drive at the athletic events held inside Hinkle Fieldhouse.

Bulldogs Visit St. Mary’s Child Center
For the fifth-straight year, Butler student-athletes collaborated with the St. Mary’s Child Center to provide Christmas cheer for the students. BU athletes spent part of their Sunday filling and wrapping approximately 180 shoe boxes with toys and books and delivered them to St. Mary’s on Tuesday, Dec. 10.
