1997 Men's Basketball Team

The 1997 men's basketball team posted a 23-10 overall record to become the first Butler team to advance to the NCAA Tournament in 35 years. This group went 12-4 vs. Midwestern Collegiate Conference opponents to claim the regular season title and tournament championship for the first time in school history. The 1997 team's 23 wins came by an average margin of 16 points, and the 23 wins were the second-most in program history at that time. Six of the 10 losses came by five points or less and the four conference losses came by a total of just nine points which included three overtimes. The 1997 Bulldogs ranked 14th in the NCAA in scoring defense, 21st in field goal defense and 24th in scoring margin.
