Xavier Swimming Holds off Butler 74-52


CINCINNATI – Butler faced BIG EAST foe Xavier over the weekend in a women's swimming meet. The Bulldogs performed well overall, but fell to the Musketeers 74-52.

The 200 yard medley relay was action packed on Saturday afternoon as the group of Kaitie Ring, Amanda Wagner, Audrey Gosnell and Claire Butkus placed second finishing in 1:55.14. The race came down to the wire as Xavier won with a time of 1:55.10.

Butler scored nine points in the 200 yard IM with Genevieve Pena, Abby Cutler and Elizabeth Miller finishing in the top three. Pena won the race with a time of 2:22.09. Cutler's time of 2:25.63 was good enough for second and Miller closed the top three with a finish at 2:28.33

The Bulldogs also came up with a chunk of points in the 200 yard freestyle relay with Gosnell, Emma Green, Abby Gibbons and Butkus taking first place (1:44.48). Butler's B Team placed second with a time of 1:50.16.

Green also swam well in the 200 yard freestyle by placing second overall with a time of 2:03.37 to earn three points for BU. She finished the day with a third place finish in the 200 yard breaststroke with a time of 2:46.05. Wagner posted the best time in the event taking second place at 2:40.36.

Megan Boebinger and Allie Dvorchak finished back-to-back for Butler in the 200 yard butterfly. Boebinger took second clocking in at 2:23.46 and Dvorchak was close behind in third (2:28.94).

The 50 yard freestyle was close between Butler and Xavier as Serena Daley came up with a second place finish with a time of 26.37. Ring and Lindsay McDonald rounded out the top five for the Bulldogs. Daley also competed in the 100 yard freestyle, picking up another second place finish, this time touching the wall at 56.94.

Cecilia Rose and Emily McCutchan were the top performers for Butler in the 200 yard backstroke. Rose placed second (2:22.93) while McCutchan was in there for third (2:28.14).
