Swimming Competes In House Of Champions Invite This Weekend

Dec. 2, 2008

The Butler women's swimming team hits the pool for the first time in nearly a month and for the final time in 2008 when it heads downtown to the IUPUI Natatorium to take part in the House of Champions Invitational from Friday-Saturday, Dec. 5-6.

The invitational opens up on Friday beginning a 6:30 p.m. before wrapping up on Saturday with a pair of sessions starting at 10:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Along with host IUPUI, the Bulldogs will swim against teams including Ball State, Eastern Illinois and Ball State.

The meet will be Butler's first competition in nearly a month after swimming against UIC, North Dakota and host Milwaukee on Nov. 8.

Senior Sarah Lynne Gates continues to be the Bulldogs' top swimmer with top marks in eight events so far this season, including the 50, 100, 200 and 1,000 freestyles as well as both backstroke and individual medley events.

Junior Stephanie Moles holds a pair of top times on the team, coming in the 500 free and the 200 butterfly, while sophomore Leigh Weston has been the top swimmer in the 100 and 200 backstrokes. Junior Kendall Wormley, meanwhile, touts a team-best time in the 100 fly.

Following a break for the holidays, the Bulldogs will return to action in 2009 when they take part in the two-day University of Indianapolis Invitational from Jan. 9-10 in Indianapolis.
