Butler Earns Track And Field Academic Recognition
Butler’s men’s and women’s track and field teams ranked among the best in the nation in the classroom and both squads were honored by the U. S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) as 2010 Division I All-Academic Track and Field Teams. A total of 73 men’s teams and 151 women’s programs were recognized by the coaches’ association.

Butler will send a league-high nine athletes to Greensboro, N.C., to compete in the East Preliminary Round of the 2010 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championship. The meet, hosted by North Carolina A & T, will be held at Aggie Stadium, Thursday through Saturday, May 27-29.

Near-record performances by seniors Kris Gauson and Rob Mullett highlighted the performance of the Butler track and field squad at the non-scoring Georgia Tech Invitational, which wrapped up on Saturday (May 15). The two were among a handful of Bulldogs who traveled to Atlanta, Ga., for the competition.

Carroll Stadium on Saturday (April 24). The non-scoring meet attracted athletes from more than 15 schools and several club teams.

Butler Cracks Top 50 In Men's Track And Field
Butler has cracked the “Top 50” in the 2010 U. S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association NCAA Division I Outdoor National Team Rankings for the first time this season. The Bulldogs moved up six spots from a week ago and climbed to No. 47 in the rankings released on April 20.

Senior Kris Gauson narrowly missed his own school record in the men’s 1,500 meter run to pace a solid showing by a contingent of Butler track and field members at the Mt. Sac Relays in Walnut, Calif. The three-day meet wrapped up on Saturday, April 17.

Rob Mullett Named Horizon League Indoor Track Athlete of the Year
Senior Rob Mullett, who became the first athlete in Butler track history to record a sub-four minute mile, has been named the 2010 Horizon League Male Indoor Track Athlete of the Year. He’s the sixth Butler runner to earn the league honor in the past seven years.

Butler senior Rob Mullett became just the second indoor track and field All-American in Butler history with a top eight finish in the men’s mile at the 2010 NCAA Division I Indoor Track and Field Championship on Saturday, March 13. It was just the second time in school history that Butler scored points in the indoor national meet.

The Butler track and field squad took advantage of the Alex Wilson Last Chance Meet, hosted by Notre Dame, to break two school records and add a couple of qualifying marks for the upcoming NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championship. The Alex Wilson meet wrapped up on Saturday, March 6.

Butler’s final outing prior to the 2010 Horizon League Indoor Track and Field Championship, Feb. 27-28, produced several solid performances, particularly in the middle distance events. Team scores weren’t kept at the Eastern Illinois Friday Night Special, but the meet proved to be a solid tune-up for Butler’s individual runners.

Butler head coach Matt Roe entered only a partial squad in the Indiana Relays, but the Bulldogs still turned in several solid performances in the two-day meet hosted by Indiana University. Eight different Butler runners claimed a “Top 6” individual finish in the multi-team meet, and one posted a school record!

Stephen Lisgo Places Fifth At European Championships
Butler track and field All-American Stephen Lisgo added to an already impressive resume by placing fifth in the men’s 3,000 meter steeplechase at the European Athletics U23 Championships in Kaunas, Lithuania, on Sunday, July 19. The Butler junior was competing as a member of the Great Britain and Northern Ireland team.

Butler’s Stephen Lisgo To Compete In European U23 Championships
Stephen Lisgo, who earned All-America honors as a junior on the Butler track and field squad this past spring, has been selected to the 52-member Great Britain and Northern Ireland team for the European Athletics Under-23 Championships. The international competition will take place July 16-19 in Kaunas, Lithuania.
