Mason Cathey Advances To Olympic Trials Finals
EUGENE, ORE. -- Butler assistant track and cross country coach
Mason Cathey cleared the first hurdle in her bid for a spot on the
U. S. Olympic Team. The Butler coach successfully advanced to
the finals of the women’s 3,000 meter steeplechase, which
will be held on Friday in Eugene, Oregon.
Cathey placed third in the first heat of the steeplechase prelims
on Monday (June 25). Her time of 9:47.32 was the
sixth-fastest overall among the 14 runners who qualified for the
steeplechase finals. Emma Coburn of Colorado, who won the
first heat, had the fastest qualifying effort with a time of
9:43.19.
The women’s 3,000 meter steeplechase finals will be held at
4:45 p.m. (PT) on Friday.
Current Butler runner Kirsty Legg and former Butler runners Kris
Gauson and Andrew Sherman competed in the British Olympic Trials
last weekend, but the trio did not advance to the finals.
