Bulldogs Shine In Steeplechase At Poehlein Inv.
WEST LAFAYETTE, IND. -- Sophomore Craig Jordan picked up an individual win and led a strong team showing in the steeplechase to highlight Butler's track and field performance at the Mike Poehlein Invitational, hosted by Purdue. The two-day meet at Rankin Track and Field concluded on Saturday, March 31.
Jordan won the men's steeplechase in 9:20.45, while leading the Bulldogs to three of the top five individual finishes in the event. Freshman Kodi Mullins came in third in the race in 9:30.45, while junior Kevin Oblinger finished fifth in 9:35.85.
Butler also grabbed two of the top four spots in the women's steeplechase. Junior Shelbi Burnett led the way with a third place finish in 11:08.71, while freshman Mara Olson came in fourth in 11:22.66.
The Bulldogs picked up another "Top 3" finish in the women's 1500 meter run, where junior Kaitlyn Love finished third in 4:41.04. Love also placed fourth in the women's 800 meter run in 2:13.24.
Freshman Nicole Hudec continued her assault on the Butler record book, breaking the school's 14-year-old women's triple jump record. Hudec placed fifth in the event with a leap of 35-00.25, breaking the previous Butler mark of 34-05.5 set by Jen Conner in 1998. Hudec also placed seventh in the women's long jump with a 16-08.50 effort.
