Bulldogs Resume Indoor Track Season At Illini Open

CHAMPAIGN, ILL. -- Butler's track and field squad returned to action after a holiday break and began the 2013 portion of the indoor schedule at the Illini Open, hosted by the University of Illinois on Saturday (Jan. 12).

Highlights for the Bulldogs in the non-scoring meet were:

•Sophomore Mara Olson won the women's 3,000 meter run with a time of 9:45.15.  She paced the 11-runner field and finished more than four seconds ahead of runner-up Margo Richardson of Saint Louis.

•Junior Alex Berry narrowly missed a Butler record in the men's 600 meter run.  He finished in 1:22.50, just shy of the school mark of 1:22.1 held by Nathan Dosanjh (2001).

•Freshman Luke Zygmunt placed third in the men's mile with a time of 4:19.44.  Sophomore Kellan Strobel came in sixth in the same race in 4:25.76.

•Freshman Chris Kelsey (8:43.81) placed third and freshman Keigan Culler (8:46.65) finished fourth in the men's 3,000 meter run.

•Freshman Taylor Royalty finished fifth in the women's 800 meter run in 2:27.35.

•Junior Tom Brueggemann came in fifth in the men's 60 meter dash in 7.17 and sixth in the men's 200 meter dash in 23.00.

Butler will continue the indoor season at the Gladstein Invitational in Bloomington, Ind., on Jan. 18-19.
