Katie Clark Named Academic All-District
INDIANAPOLIS, IND. -- Butler junior Katie Clark, wrapping up a record-setting year in track and cross country, has been named to the Capital One Academic All-District V University Division Women's Track & Field/Cross Country Team, chosen by College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). She was one of 10 student-athletes named to the District V first team all-academic squad.
Clark, an honor student majoring in criminal justice, is the lone Butler athlete still competing in the 2012-13 athletic year. She qualified for the NCAA Division I Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championship in Eugene, Ore., in both the 5,000 and 10,000 meter runs. The national meet begins at Oregon's Hayward Field on June 5.
A standout distance runner, Clark earned All-America honors last fall at the NCAA Division I Women's Cross Country Championship in Louisville, Ky. She captured the individual title at the Atlantic 10 Conference Women's Cross Country Championship, and she went on to place 22nd at the NCAA national meet, becoming just the second Butler female athlete to earn cross country All-America honors.
This spring, Clark shattered school records in both the 5,000 and 10,000 meter runs. She became the first Butler woman to run under 16:00 in the 5,000 with a time of 15:43.51 at the Mt. Sac Relays, and she broke the previous Butler 10,000 meter record by nearly two minutes with a time of 33:36.36 at the Stanford Invitational. Clark won individual titles in both the 1,500 and 5,000 meter runs at the A-10 Outdoor Championship.
Clark was named to the Atlantic 10 Conference Academic All-Conference teams in both cross country and track and field this year.
A total of 25 student-athletes were named first or second team on the academic honor squad from District V, which represents Division I schools from Indiana, Illinois, Michigan and Ohio. Athletes named first team Academic All-District are eligible for the 2013 Capital One Academic All-America Team.
