INDIANAPOLIS, IN -- The Butler University Track & Field team will host the Bulldog Opener on Saturday, March 22, at the Davey Sport Complex. Field events are set to begin at 11 a.m., with running events scheduled to tentatively begin at 1 p.m. with the 4x100m relay.
Kicking off the outdoor track season, Butler will be hosting men's and women's teams from Xavier, Morehead State, Eastern Kentucky, Loyola-Chicago, University of Illinois-Chicago, and the women's team from IPFW.
"We are excited to host the inaugural Bulldog Opener right here at the Davey Sport Complex," Butler head coach Matt Roe said. "This is a great opportunity to have another home meet on our schedule."
-Senior distance runner Kirsty Legg will be competing in the 1500m and 800m events. Legg, starting her senior outdoor campaign, is an All-American and school record-holder in the 1500m.
-Junior sprinter/jumper Nicole Hudec is set to compete in the Long Jump, 100m, and 4x100m relay. Hudec was named to the 2014 Indoor Track & Field All-BIG EAST team in the Long Jump and Triple Jump events, and is the current school record-holder in the 100m, 4x100m relay, and indoor Long Jump and Triple Jump.
-Senior sprinter/jumper Nigel Spears will represent the men's team in the Long Jump in the Bulldog Opener. Spears was named to the 2014 Indoor Track & Field All-BIG EAST team in the 1600m relay and Long Jump.
-Senior sprinter Alex Berry will compete in the Bulldog Opener in an event to be determined. Berry, a member of the 2014 Indoor Track & Field All-BIG EAST team in the 1600m relay and 500m, is the school record-holder in the indoor 400m, 500m, 600m, and 4x400m relay.
The Bulldog Opener will be the first of two home meets for Butler this season. The Bulldogs will host the Stan Lyons Invitational on May 3.
