Mara Olson Claims BIG EAST Weekly Honor

INDIANAPOLIS, IND. -- Butler junior Mara Olson was stellar in her first outdoor race of the season, and her effort earned her BIG EAST Women's Track Athlete of the Week honors.  Olson was one of four BIG EAST athletes recognized by the conference on Tuesday, April 22.

Olson, making her 2014 outdoor debut, placed 11th in the Elite Women's 5,000 Meter Invitational race at the prestigious Mt. Sac Relays in Walnut, Calif.  The Butler distance ace posted a personal-best time of 15:47.14, less than four seconds off the school record.  Her time was the second-best recorded in the BIG EAST this season and the 11th-best posted nationally.

The third-year runner became the first Butler athlete to earn BIG EAST Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week recognition.  She also earned the honor during the indoor track and field season.

The conference also recognized Darren Fahy of Georgetown (Men's Track Athlete of the Week), John Kolibab of Xavier (Men's Field Athlete of the Week) and Carlye Schuh of Marquette (Women's Field Athlete of the Week).

Butler's track and field squad will continue its outdoor schedule at the Miami Redhawk Invitational on Saturday, April 26.
